  1. Past hour
  2. Glad you found the problem, and that it was not you! As for programming, make sure that the data cable is securely plugged into the side socket on the radio. When you get it working, their program is fine. Be sure you download the one for the KG-1000+ version of the radio, not the older 'non +' one.
  3. $30 5 watt Dual SideBand 2 meters. . my next project after RM Noise reduction for HF using AI
  4. Today
  5. thought i would come back and give an update.... I ended up sending the radio back to BTWR, because i was convinced that the radio HAD a failure. Sure enough, they tested it and found fault in the faceplate. they warranted to unit, and the new one came two days ago. YES, I have a plethora of different length data cables, all shielded, that work PERFECT! The permanent install starts tomorrow... Although, it appears that CHIRP has NO solid program for this radio, and im having some difficulty with the WOUXUN data cable....
  6. I’m not sure if there is anything that does. Maybe a node but I’m still not totally sure what those are yet. Every where I look nodes and raspberry pies keep showing up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. WSCH382. I have been watching the videos and Randy you are the spokesperson for GMRS. Your videos caught my interest and now I hav joined the GMRS community
  8. Perfect. I was in the same boat last month but didn’t wait. I got the Wouxun KG-20XS and am very happy. Good luck!!

  10. A bit louder and clearer, but you probably won't get a lot more distance. Height is might. Obstructions can't be overcome with power (unless you are lucky with refraction).
  11. 2 of them. Also got a little package from a fellow ham on the island of Malta
  12. Next you are going to tell us the emperor has no clothes
  13. I don’t have one but by far the folks who have them are very positive.
  14. One thing about btwr, the price of M&P connectors is considerably higher than Gigaparts, but they often have them in stock when Gigaparts is out.
  15. For that diameter I agree. If you’re willing to spend some money and go to a larger diameter, there’s also LMR600, LMR900, and LMR1200. I watched some videos on installing connectors on the larger cables the other day. The tools cost more than my radios! Of course M&P has similar diameters and performance cables.
  16. Message withdrawn, I can't delete completely.
  17. M&P is about the only "upgrade" from LMR400, unless you go to hardline! This site will custom make the M&P in the length you specify, with or without connectors: https://www.buytwowayradios.com/messi-paoloni-mp-uf10-mr.html
  18. I appreciate everyone's input. The Wouxun (20 hours later) is no longer on backorder, so I've got one on the way. I'm hoping this will be a good 1st mobile radio that will keep me interested and learning. My goal is to someday have the knowledge to understand this new world I'm walking into without getting overwelmed.
  19. I wouldn't buy any cable from Amazon. Buy it from a reputable communications supply outlet such as DX Engineering or Show Me Cables, etc.
  20. The Comet 2x4SR works well for 2m, 70cm and GMRS. I tested the the SWR while inside the garage and the highest I got was 1.6 to 1.8 at 467 MHz. And I know being inside the garage and the metal garage door tracks effected the SWR reading a little. I have no problem receiving and transmitting and always get good signal reports. I would love to put the Comet 2x4SR on the roof of my Ford Escape but it is too tall to fit into the garage or the VA parking garage.
  21. That's about as good as it's going to get. The match should be fairly decent over the operating range. https://forums.mygmrs.com/gallery/image/268-ca-2x4sr/?context=new
  22. You can order a 75 foot coax cable ready to go from DX Engineering. It is DX engineering brand 400MAX. It is available with PL259 or N Type connectors. The cable with PL259 connectors is $137 and the cable with N Type connectors is $140. DX Engineering 400MAX cables.
  23. An expanded metal rack makes a pretty good ground plain for the Comet 2x4SR antenna. Here is a photo of the rear rack on my Honda Pioneer 500. I have the antenna set in the center of the rack. Here is a phot of the rack before installing the antenna.
  24. Well that's about all I'd hope to achieve with a power supply. In my case probably a 20-25 watt radio at most and maybe use the front receptacle to power a desktop receiver I have.
