You can still register and use the site. It just doesn't say 100% until you add a ham callsign.

The best part of DMR in my opinion is using a MMDVM Hotspot. Easy to use around the house and chat with anyone anywhere. PI-star software easy to configure. Reasonable to build or buy. I understand there is something similar being used on GMRS but not sure how easy it is and at what price.

Magnetic Antenna Mounts and Paint Damage
PRadio replied to Over2U's question in Technical Discussion
I used 3M clear paint surface protection vinyl film. I applied it to the base of the magnet mount, trimmed around most of the base, leaving a wide section about an inch or so long one side, then folded the tail over to make it double thickness to be used as something to grab when removing the antenna. Also keep the paint under it well waxed. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VG8DS0?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder_k0_1_7&=&crid=1ELGBGSQ87X09&=&sprefix=3m+clea And it looks like I need to remove and clean it and the car once the weather breaks. -
Tx on one channel and Rx on different channel.

I just got this radio several days ago and have not done any programing. -

How have you got your radio programmed up? -

Despite the government's denials, a cell phone kill switch, I'm sure in the case of some "domestic disturbance" cell phone use would be restricted or disabled completely by their order. After J6 if it didn't exist then I'll bet it does now. That's when you're likely to need your radio the most to coordinate with others to get out of an area to a safe place.
-
Yeah soldering connectors on is not for everyone. One won't go wrong with a quality prebuilt coax cable. And it never hurts to coil the excess cable right below the antenna.
-
Iy you will find that it does not transmit, join the club have 4 different radios and none of them transmit just recieve. This one is supposed to but just can't get it to yet. Repeater is not standard freqs so I am trying to figure that out. Once you get it figured out you will like it. Get a notebook and write down all the abbreviations in the radio until you know them. Happy hunting.

I've tried installing my own connectors, wasn't easy, didn't turn out that well. Unless you've done a lot of it, and have the right tools, it's money well spent to just buy a cable with the connectors already installed. One less question mark if things don't work as planed.

I amstill trying g to figure it out, but I have found a lot of videos on u-tube. Also type in how to mannually program UV-5G+ in the search box on goggle.

tidradio TIDRADIO H8 problems with GMRS repeater access
gearjunkie replied to DMRUSSELL's topic in Equipment Reviews
Thats one reason I'm afraid to update my firmware. I have 230317 ! Works fine no matter how I program it. Bluetooth or chirp. Hits all repeaters. -
Why does it not let me complete my registration unless I put a ham call sign in? This is a Gmrs site. I am studying for tech.

I've tried to give radios out to my family for this purpose. They come back with the cell phone argument. @OffRoaderX just made a vid about it too. My wife and kids all have one, but my extended family just plans to use their phones, despite life experience telling me that's a bad idea.

I am new to gmrs radio and I am looking for someone who would help me program my baofeng uv-5g+.

If you have TDR/dual-monitoring enabled, and line-A is on Channel 23, and line B is on channel 21, then yes, this would be normal. -
You can use the same one.

I've noticed Pinal had changed their tones as well. So far the only repeater that we found to work well...flawlessly in our situation at Bartlett lake was CK575. I will need to try some of the others while at the lake and see if I can get a response from any others. I didn't realize there is a waiting list or line, heck I still don't even know how to get in line... either way the wait will be worth it if there's a chance for access again. Thx
-
If I already have a current FRN number because I have a ham radio license can I use that frn number to obtain a GMRS license ? or do I need a separate FRN number?
-
Newbie question here. For example, I am monitoring on Channel 23 and someone is transmitting on that channel but yet I hear the responding person on say channel 21. I have a dual band handheld (UV-5G plus). Is that normal?

If they used their call sign as their ID, or if they’ve included it in a post you can find it with a search. It’s possible that they have a sign-in for the website but not for the forum. But, if you know their call sign it is very easy to look up their name and address using the call sign lookup on the website here or in the FCC database. What’s the call sign?

It is important to use the correct type and good quality coax. The cheap Amazon coax will have more loss than TM LMR400 or the Messi and Pailoni equivalent. The cheap coax won't have as much braided shielding and/or use lower quality materials which leads to more loss. Using a good antenna with at least 6dBi of gain will overcome the 1-2 dB loss from the coax. Again use quality coax and quality connectors (if making your own cables).
