  1. Past hour
  2. I always go direct to the Battery. Less chance of noise.
  3. I have one, i actually prefer the Hytera for simplicity.. i paid 375 for the xtl 5000 w/ software and cable.
  4. Not really that hard and I’m on my phone. One I pulled up had the name and address etc but you can click the link and it opens in Google Maps. Pick a blue dot and click on the direction arrow. This is exactly why I went and registered on Ham Registry through OffRoaderX YouTube channel (plus a month free I think )
  5. It was already extremely easy.. It would be harder for me to find someone by callsign on that map that it would be to find someone by callsign on the FCC website. Your argument does not stand up to scrutiny and is therefore, invalid.
  6. I usually go direct from the battery and use an isolation switch if needed. Old school and my old Jeeps (‘74CJ5; ‘80CJ7; ‘84 CJ8; ‘86 CJ7 and my old Willys) I have to manually turn things off so it’s easier for me etc.
  7. Of course I realize that. Probably more that most people. Its just why keep making it even easier for those who want to find the info.
  8. Read your installation manual. Some manufactures require the ground be grounded to the chassis and not directly to the battery. Those same manfacturers state run the hot/positive lead only directly to the battery.
  9. Good one! The funny part is that its like you dont realize that you put yourself on that list and all that information that you gave to the FCCs such as your home-address is tied to your GMRS callsign, and was already on Google, Facebook, and probably a lot of other places..
  10. Agreed, and I’ve done that before but I was just hinging off the other comment of not being able to do so. Agreed 100% Thank you and thank you for your videos, they help me tremendously.
  11. This is exactly why you need a P.O. Box or Ham Registry etc. I do believe (might be mistaken) the FCC web site specifically tells you that your address etc is public, it is your job on how you go about that privacy (I would think ).
  12. Yesterday
  13. I’ve got a kg uv9 and the knob on top is super annoying. I’m always hitting it. I have to lock it down all the time. And when it’s locked it will only transmit on the main channel not top and bottom.
  14. Direct to the battery with fuses is widely spoken of as very effective, because it's most likely the cleanest power you'll get. Some radio manufacturers put fuses on both the positive and negative leads as well, rather than just one. Putting a switch in the curcuit is a good idea so you can completely remove power from the radio. Some radios draw current even when they're turned off. I found this out when my QYT KT8900 killed my go box AGM battery in about a week, so far down it wouldn't charge. I also have an inline filter that I built. I've included the link below. It filters out almost all alternator noise. http://www.sanantoniohams.org/tips/whine.htm
  15. Most radios have a non use timer that you can program to turn off after 5,15,30,45min ect of non use. I grew up driving old cars that you had to manually turn off the lights so I’m used to checking and turning off my radio when I get out of the trucks. It’s just second nature. But if you can’t do that a pod switch system will work. Some people swear it creates noise so you may or may not have that issue.
  16. It depends on how you define "best" ... I connected mine via my SPOD switch system. For me this was "best" because it was much easier and the wire-runs were shorter and already established.
  17. I swear, I'm not BSing at all, I almost bought one last night but opted to spend the extra cash for the FTM-500DR instead.
  18. This one should be easy for you guys. What's the best way to connect a radio to power? Direct to the battery is simplest it that leaves an opening to discharge the battery if the unit is left powered on. Details, please, as far as the connection method, etc. Thx.
  19. I would be pissed if you put me on that list! Why would you do that? Most people that use GMRS are not interested in being contacted by random strangers. They use it to stay in touch with friends and family and that's all they want it for. Then to add it to google and Farce book who harvest and sell everyone's data already. Many things are easily done, doesn't mean you should. Not cool in my opinion.
  20. The repeater group in our area has been doing this while conducting Simplex excursuses the plotting who can hear who and rough signal strength. I suppose in-case SHTF, we would know who's locally available to contact. The map is pretty interesting.
  21. Everyone keeps forgetting about the ICOM IC-2730A w/MARS mod. Great 50W mobile. One caveat is accessories are extra.
  22. I agree and recommend the same to anyone having trouble with this company, (or any company).. For recurring payments via PayPal you dont even need to close the PayPal account, you can simply "end" the recurring payments.
  23. You’ve upset the mASS’s. Soo many people have no idea this is so easily done. Some people may be very upset at you. Some heads may explode.
  24. I posted it in the Midwest GMRS Club FB group for people over there as well and let's just say there are some... "mixed" opinions!
  25. Oh man... A lot of people are going to shart-themselves when the reality that the FCCs makes their info public and easily accessible to anyone that has their callsign starts to sink-in...
