It seems that is the same mindset of the clowns who keep kerchunking the local repeater and demonstrating their many different Roger beeps.

Not a legal issue here in North Carolina. State law classifies such as either 1) Lost property, 2) Misplaced property, or 3) Abandoned property, and there are specific legal rights or responsibilities that go to the finder with each. The moral issue, on the other hand, is more vague. 99.99% of the time if you ask the cable guy if he lost a $300 roll of cable the answer is going to be "yes". The other 0.01% of the time the answer is going to be "hell yes".

Who cares what you use or how you mix it. If I found out something like that upset some jerk on the radio I’d do it 10xs more. It’s non of their business. I’d make my own and mix all 3.

I agree with nokones...everything. When I key my Boo-fang UV-5R to talk, the right click menu on my wireless Bluetooth mouse pops up on my computer screen.

I want to give a little update on my TYT TH-7800 and Wouxun KG-1000G after a couple of months of running my Yaesu FTDX10 HF radio at the same time as using the other radios. The TYT TH-7800 picks up quite a bit of interference from the FTDX when transmitting on digital modes and talking on the TH-7800 at the same time. Depending on the frequencies/bands, the interference is anything from a slight buzz to sounding like I am doubling with someone. The Wouxun KG-1000G does not suffer from any of the interference issues caused by my FTDX. I wanted to mention it for those that have their amateur and GMRS licenses and want to run digital modes on a HF radio while talking on a UHF/VHF radio at the same time.

That makes perfect sense.

What is the hurry? I mean really. You’re in a big hurry to find local repeaters and ask for access from them from the private owners that may or may not even get back to you. Just slow down. Take a breath and wait. It’s really not a big deal. You may ask for access to a repeater and you may never hear back. No one even has to give you access. So you could be weeks or more away. I’d suggest you start listening to local traffic and see if you can make simplex contacts. Remember gmrs really Is for friends and family. For bringing your own contacts not for rushing a privately owned site to get access to privately owned repeaters.

I definitely would not use cable/satellite TV coax for UHF frequencies to include GMRS. Most satellite TV installations use RG6 cable. RG6 will have more loss than RG8. Final update: The 102” whip with the slim jim was too cumbersome to be “portable”, so i moved the so-239 bulk head to the top of the case and i now use a Nagoya NL-R2 instead. Then i widened the hole where the so-239 use to be and installed a water proof cig plug socket for solar charging. This project is now complete.

I should. I'll have to slate some time for it when I'm done traveling. It's an XTL5000. I have 3 of them. Two UHF and one VHF. All 110w units. I run the w7 heads because I love the old-school look and feel.

I had to look through several sites, most say nothing at all about the antenna or optional antennas, but found this directly on the Baofengtech site: Q: Is the antenna removable? A: Certification requires the stock antenna to be an integral part of the radio. The GMRS-PRO antenna is permanently glued in place and tampering with the antenna will void the radio’s warranty. What made you think it WAS removable? I have no plans to purchase one, so no first hand experience with that model...

Interesting point on the human body. But I suspect that human tissue is quite lossy at these freqs. I know for sure that it is lossy at 800MHz and also at 150MHz, so most likely also at 460MHz. Way back in the stone age at Motorola, with one way pagers, remember those....there was a model called the PageBoy II. It had a short hairpin antenna around the outside of the case that when belt worn would couple the magnetic field to the RF currents running along the length of the body. But it should be noted that although this was the "best" position on the human body, that this was still lossy compared to free space for example. It was assumed that the pager would mostly be worn on the body somewhere, and on the belt near the center of a 6ft tall person was typical, and at 150MHz a 6ft person is around 1/2 wavelength tall. Thus near the center of this 1/2 wave lossy body is where the current is maximum, thus the PageBoy II antenna would couple to that. Just a tad of history for you history folks

Still no joy on the system update to recognize my call sign. Longest 48 hours. There has to be a better way to get access to a repeater quickly. It's ok back to watching more videos. Leo

I just got my first radio also, a UV-5G plus, and BEWARE, the repeater programming in the manual is NOT in 6.11 like the table of contents in the owners manual says, it is in 6.4 Have you had any luck? I have programmed repeaters that I have permission for, and am able to hear a lot, but talk little. Not sure why yet. I have been able to communicate with my other UV-5G plus, 4 miles away very clearly, but don't know if that's because I'm hitting the repeater or not, and have not had any successful "Radio checks"

Is your uv9 a boofwang or a woxoun I have both. The boofwang uv9 uses a female sma. The woxoun uv9 uses a male sma. they make foldable antennas for both.

Exactly. I'm using a Baofeng UV5G+ and ordered the T3 and have a few others and the Baofeng does well.

I live 20 miles east of Sacramento CA and I'm pretty much inland. Also the radio I'm using is an UV9R+ will that antenna work on that radio?
