  2. I also have the programming software but I can't remember where I got it from.

  4. I love my TYT TH9800. Great radio for the money. However, rumor has it that the 2021 and newer models are locked down and will not TX on GMRS and MURS frequencies among others. You'd have to find a seller with new "old stock" pre 2021 build dates to actually get a good one. I bought mine 9-10 years ago and it came unlocked. Hate to see you buy one and get hosed with a frequency locked unit. If you're on a budget, these radios are worth the price, and aren't restricted at all. Small too. Barely bigger than a deck of cards. I own a few of them, work well for what they are, but do have some of same quirks other cheaper units do. Here's some reviews.
  5. I'm no math wiz, but it's probably a wash. The connector with an extra 18 feet (totaling 68 feet) of coax will probably suffer the same loss that a solid 100 foot run would. Just make sure to seal that up good if the connector ends up outside.
  6. Can I take this 50' cable and say attach another 18' (connector to connector) to get my desired length and not suffer a great DB loss instead of buying 100'? If not, then 100' it would have to be. Thanks,
  7. I suspect the same. Battery not beefy enough to handle the load. If you want some ideas, here is the link to my simplex ammo can repeater that also uses an sr-112. I have no issue powering a 10w mobile radio, the sr-112, and a charge controller with a 6ah lifepo4 battery and a 10w solar panel.
  8. We have a few users in the Hampton Roads 757 area. I used to live in Kiln Creek but now live in Chesapeake. Your best GMRS repeater will be the Hampton / Tabb Repeater. If you are on Facebook we have a South East Virginia GMRS Group page if you would like to join. Southeast Virginia GMRS https://www.facebook.com/groups/214198111758035

  10. Abbree AR 771 GMRS antenna has been working great for me both GMRS and Ham frequencies Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Where did you get that reference? https://www.wouxun.com/radios/KG-1000G-PLUS.aspx Wouxun doen't show that on their site. (Not saying I don't believe you... just emphasizing my hardship with finding the right radio given different info on different sites.) I figure if I need to transmit on other frequencies, I can use my UV-5R. Education is the other reason... maybe once I get more comfortable and have folks to talk to outside of GMRS, I'll put more towards communicating on it. You may not care... but if it saved money and works great... would you mind sharing what you use? $2.00 now. You have to adjust for inflation. I appreciate your input and I took your suggestion (added myself to their notification list).
  12. When I put my GMRS version in Normal mode, the GMRS channels are no longer programmed into memory, and I thought you could transmit on HAM and GMRS in Normal mode, and HAM frequencies when in HAM mode, even if it's an advertised GMRS version.
  13. In theory, the GMRS version will only transmit on GMRS frequencies, and it will have repeater channels with the offset baked in.
  14. So, is the only difference between the HAM and GMRS versions of the TD-H3 sold on amazon the antenna that comes with the radio (and the FCC ID#)?
  15. Whaaaa? Problems with a first generation new piece of equipment? Really? I’m sooo NOT surprised. I’ve made it a point no never ever buy any first generation anything. There are many many better options that are proven to work well.
  16. Was looking forward to trying the radio but I'm surprised they accepted orders when it wasn't ready yet

  18. I will throw my 2 pennies worth in, I have been around radios for many years. But I am new to GMRS, I debated for a while on what radio to get and I decided to get the Wouxun 1000g+ and I have been super happy with it. I have other radios for 2meter/70cm use as well as HF radios. I just believe that the radio should and would perform best for what it is designed for. The KG1000G+ will receive all the frequencies but only transmits on the GMRS freqs. Just get on the Buytwowayradio site and list to be notified when in stock, but check everyday. That is what I did and grabbed mine as soon as I saw it available. It is a great radio, I don't think you can go wrong with it.

  21. Why get a radio you can only receive on most frequencies? None of my mobile units cost more then $150. All of them are full uhf and vhf transmit and they are all water proof and with the right antennas on the trucks 75 miles is easy and at home with a big antenna 200 miles is easy and happens every day. And I beat the heck out of my radios 7 days a week and have never had one issue. All are chirp and no one can tell what radios I have , not that I care what other people think.

  23. The KG-1000 plus looks like it will get those AM frequencies as well.
  24. The 980P is CHIRP-able. The radio can be configured to xmt/rcv on GMRS, but it is not Part 95 compliant. The 980P is a good radio, but if GMRS is as far as you are going to go, then go for the 1000G Plus when it becomes available.
  25. I couldn't find anything on CHIRP to program my UV-5G so I used the GM-5RH tab and everything worked and uploaded the repeaters etc to the UV-5G if this is what you are asking.
  26. Before sending it back, are you trying to run from the USB charging ports? They might not be rated for enough current. Ideally you’d hook directly to the rechargeable battery.
  27. I think BoxCar is right, probably not enough current to run both at the same time. You might try some simple and quick troubleshooting using the battery pack for the radio and leave the SR-112 plugged into the wall. If that works reverse that and try with just the SR-112 running off of the battery pack and the radio plugged into the wall. If the system works both ways it would tend to confirm that there isn't enough current for both pieces of equipment at once. If one or the other won't work powered by the battery pack it could mean there isn't enough capable of powering that piece of equipment by it's self.
