  1. I was looking up specs on something else and stumbled upon yet another entry into the GMRS HT world. https://www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-kg-905g.html Michael WRHS965 KE8PLM

  2. Choosing which scan group you want to scan from the radio is an easy matter with multiple Wouxun radios I own. However, programming which frequency range belongs in each scan group does in-fact require the software. Michael WRHS965 KE8PLM

  3. OK, thanks for the pointers. Without the cable, it's a bit hard to set this up. I am able to scan a specific set of channels (Under Group 1) by using settings 33 & then 43. I'm sure the software will be more intuitive and easier to set up multiple group scan lists. Just have to wait for BTWR did get the cable in again. The radio and the cable are sold almost immediately when they come in.

    New To GMRS

If amateur radio is your thing, they're usable for ham once you have that license. You can listen to anything and everything they'll pick up, it's just transmitting that's a no-no. So they make decent low buck scanners, either for public safety (if your area is still unencrypted like mine is), or for frs/gmrs. For gmrs, you could use those baofengs for monitoring to conserve battery on the other radios, and then jump on the approved radio to respond if you feel the need.

  5. I received an email this morning with a pre-sale coupon for $25 off and they said shipping to start in March. Not sure what makes this particular model worth twice what the KG-805G is currently selling for. There may be more bells and whistles but for just pure GMRS use, I'm not seeing it being worthwhile to me. The KG-905G being water rated IP66 sounds good for those of us that will be around lakes and rivers. It won't take a swim but should be good against splashes from kayak paddles, etc.

    DMR

You are better off exporting to excel, adding what you want then import the excel file, instead of using the software to type out every channel.

    Midland MXT500

I also just talked with Midland tech support about the new 50W mobile. They said there will be an MXT500 (regular mobile version) and an MXT575 version with all controls on the microphone, like the MXT275. Tech Support (Sara) could not provide a release date but said it would definitely be in 2021.

  8. I have 3 of the Wouxun KG-805G radios and they are a great little radio . Real sturdy. Nothing like the cheap radios you get on Amazon or Ebay . Easy to program. And I can hit a repeater from 30 miles away at 5 watts that's pretty good. Well worth $90 each
