You would need a repeater in your area. Additionally that repeater would need to be linked to the internet and the repeater owner would need to approve that "node" to be connected. While not really sure I was told someone had linked that net to Zello or something in the past. For me nets are a ham radio thing and I have no interest to link any of my repeaters to those.

While I get your plan, it’s not permissible under FCC rules: 95E.1763c 467 MHz main channels. Only mobile, hand-held portable, control and fixed stations may transmit on these 8 channels. Mobile, hand-held portable and control stations may transmit on these channels only when communicating through a repeater station or making brief test transmissions in accordance with § 95.319©. The channel center frequencies are: 467.5500, 467.5750, 467.6000, 467.6250, 467.6500, 467.6750, 467.7000, and 467.7250 MHz.

I remember reading about that. It had to do with the Ham 70cm repeaters interfering with the Pave-Paw missile radars. Hams are "secondary" users of the band so there really wasn't any choice. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAVE_PAWS

OK that is a port issue for your USB... I'm not a current MS Windows guy, but in the pass you have to see if your USB port is active... I also notice that my new download of CHIRP has to be where near or in same directory as app and config files where the USB port setting files are. Jack Edit... I notice my updated CHIRPS goes to download and not in the directory I use for the app.

The Bronx Zoo repeater has a Zello node that connects to the net (if you wish to go that route) Otherwise, as KB2ZTX said, you would need to use a repeater that has access to the internet and the MyGMRS server. Also note, Node 169 is not a real repeater. It is a hub that is used for the regional nets, then is connected to the national hub later. There are 6 of these hubs, 169 Midwest, 172 Northeast, 174 Southeast, 175 Southern Plains, 176 Southwest, and 177 Mountain. Then there is the national hub (100) and AZ has their own network, 20400. Repeaters can also connect to one another as well, normally I run 23407 (my house) and 23409 (dads house)as a perm link. The system allows you to do that with ease.

Eh, I think not. The UV-5X are CHIRP programmable, so you can manipulate the pl tones as you see fit and set the FM mode to narrow or wide. Doesn't sound like a design flaw to me, but rather a quite flexible design.

That would be the Kingston 600 repeater. That person is usually broadcasting what is said on the police scanner during various situations.
