  1. Billy et al, Where'd u get the info on UV5R part 95 cert? I use CHIRP as well as the Baofeng UV5R software to program my radios...I like the pre-configs in CHIRP...just cut and paste. BTW, these radios and accessories have really come down in price...sub $45...almost disposable? BK WQQS970 WH6EFI
  2. Thanks Logan5 and Jeremy. The GMRS license covers my immediate family. I stay on the GMRS authorized freqs, as the radios (UV5Rs) I have put out too much power for FRS transmit even on low power. Looking at putting in a repeater here on Oahu, as no GMRS repeaters available that I can discern. BK WQQS970 WH6EFI
  3. Heres th elink for th eFCC action against Fisher Scientific http://www.fcc.gov/document/30k-nal-issued-thermo-fisher-scientific-unauthorized-operation Cheers
  4. Use FRS on base here at Hickam AFB in Hawaii to keep track of my kids. Thick buildings limit LOS but can generally hit out to 1.5 to 2 miles. Works good, they get a kick out of it, and hopefully gets them started on radio tech. I agree with above comments on the "bubble pack pirates" on GMRS freqs. We basically got CB bubba splatter on most freqs here in Hawai'i and alot stronger than 0.5W
  5. I can vouch for the Baofeng UV5r model radios. I have three, up and running. Price has come down alot (<$45 + FS&H on amazon w/xtra battery, charger, and earpiece/mic) make these almost disposable! Use CHIRP software...and Baofeng USB cable for PC, makes life infinitely easier. I programmed two radios last night in less than 5 mins.
