  1. I have had good luck with this Diamond antenna mounted on the front fender. It has very usable SWR values on VHF, UHF, and GMRS frequencies when measured on a NanoVNA. https://diamondantenna.net/az507rsp1.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Did you purchase your UV9G from BetterSafeRadio with their default SHTF memory channel programming? If yes, 1. Go to channel memory mode displaying channel name for the A or B band. To do this, long press the TDR/V/M button which will cycle through VFO mode (no channel number on right), memory mode displaying channel number, memory mode displaying channel frequency, and memory mode displaying channel name. 2. Tune to one of the pre-programmed repeater memory channels with the matching transmit frequency for the repeater that you are trying to connect to. The pre-programmed repeater channels have an “r” in front of the channel number, such as GMRSr17 or GMB r15. 3. Press the menu key and use the up/down buttons or channel knob to go to menu# 17 (Tx-CTC) to enter the CTCSS receive code for a repeater using CTCSS tones or to menu# 19 (Tx-DCS) for a repeater using the DCS tones. Press Menu button to enter the menu item and use up/down keys or channel knob to select the proper tone that matches the repeater information. 4. Press Menu button again to save the tone information and exit back to the top menu. 5. Press Exit button to leave menu and return to operation mode. If you want to add the repeater transmit code to your radio, follow the same steps as setting the Tx-CTC or Tx-DCS codes, but instead use menu# 16 (Rx-CTC) for CTCSS tones or menu# 18 (Rx-DCS) for DCS tones. This will make your radio only break squelch when it receives the signals on the repeater’s transmit frequency with the corresponding tones and will ignore the other traffic that may be on that frequency. If you want to program multiple repeaters into your memory, I highly recommend picking up a programming cable and downloading the software to program the radio using your PC. Hope this helps. 3. Sorry for jumping in late on this one. I have the KG-UV9G GMRS version, but I believe the menus and functions are very similar. I find the easiest way to wake the screen while scanning is to simply turn the channel knob. If you rotate the channel knob clockwise, it will wake the screen and continue scanning in the positive direction. If you turn the knob in the counter-clockwise direction, it wakes the screen and reverses the scan direction. You may also want to change the "BLCDSW" menu item (#41 on my unit) to "ON". This will make the backlight change to a dim setting rather than off after the time setting in "ABR:s" (#1) elapses. This prevents the screen from going completely black while the unit is powered. With regards to the pre-programmed HAM channels, nearly all of them are common simplex frequencies. There is very little traffic on these simplex frequencies in my area. I have added the local repeater frequencies to my channel list, since that is where nearly all of the local HAM traffic happens in my area. Hope this helps. Brian
