  1. With the ghost antenna being about 1/8 wavelength in length, I'm wondering what the engineering of the antenna is. Is there a coil inside? Is it classified as anything besides a "ghost antenna" (such as a "ground plane antenna")? It's a very unique design, and I would like to understand it better.
  2. I'm new to ham and I don't have an SWR meter, but I decided to go ahead and try my Nagoya UT-72G that is tuned for GMRS. I have hit a repeater over 12 miles away on 2 meter with no issue, and the guys on the other end said I sounded loud and clear.

  16. I don't fully understand the online repeater network system. I want to talk the Midwest Network but I don't know how to from southwest Missouri. How do I access it with my radio?

  19. What is a good antenna for a 20 watt mobile unit?
  20. Can I set up a repeater using two radios and a control box, or do I need a duplexer?
  21. You'll definitely not want to be on the straight GMRS channel, but on the GMRS repeater channel. Your radio should come with 8 of these programmed in already. Just tune to the correct one (there are plenty of charts online to tell you what GMRS repeater channel matches what frequency). Also, I'm guessing that if your radio is like a lot of others, the menu setting that you need to program the tone into is TX CTCSS (or it might say TX CTCS, but either way it's the same thing). Just plug the tone in there and save it.
  22. What is the best way to ground a base station antenna so my equipment or house isn't fried by lightening?
