As a teacher, I am wondering what the utility of this would be ?!? In the case of a "communication outage", schools are a good place to be - FEMA and other agencies will check on those right after they checked on hospitals ... In the case of "suspicious activity", silence is golden and overt radio traffic might attract unwanted attention ...
  2. Don't quote me on this - BUT - I guess that this site does only update on a certain schedule and that is likely to cause a delay. It would be unlikely for any site (including this) to trigger an instant update based on an individual sign up. I would give it a day or two before escalating this In any case: WELCOME - glad you found us !!!
  3. Line of sight (and only a few walls), I have clear connections between DTRs at 2 1/2 miles
  4. Welcome @WSAT790 Hope your stay will be as pleasant as you wish !
  5. Welcome @Jack442 If you are looking for "emergency communication", you will be able to find it all here: From Good information to Rabbit Holes galore Enjoy !!!
  6. Welcome @WSBQ243 -- hope you will be spotting something interesting here on the forum threads
  7. What are the odds meeting you here ... The way I understand this thread, this repeater belongs to a club that allows for use on "paid members only" basis. I missed the "check it out" window in October ...
  8. Just to clarify an important point: Any frequency (or repeater channel) can only be used for ONE transmission at a time (unless the second conversation is too far away to interfere with the first). Radio basically only allows for one person to speak at a time - one can either transmit or receive and multiple transmissions simultaneously are either having one winner (strongest signal) or much not-understandable "noise" (similar signal strength).
  9. Welcome @Scout !!! Hope you find all the information you are looking for ... if not ... Just Ask !!!
  10. It seems that you are trying to "sneak" your own privacy tone into / through the repeater. That will not work. The transmitting station needs to transmit the repeater tone to open the repeater and to get re-transmitted / relayed. With the setup you describe, the home station will receive nothing but transmissions coming in through simples with the set tone. The repeater will not "re-transmit" a private tone. Some repeaters are using transmission tones but that would be the same for all traffic on the repeater.
  11. @dmg1969 Welcome and "hello" right back at you !!!
  12. Have not made the net in some time ... but I am getting David's weekly reminders. I made the Friday morning net when I was still working in this part of the desert You must sit in a perfect location to get that coverage
  13. I wanted to check the machine out when they opened it up for testing but did not get around for it. Missed the opportunity and left it at that - for now. Whiskey Rocks (WROX766) is a solid machine out here, but I do not know if Phelan can hit it. I could get in via HT (upgraded antenna) from George AFB.
  14. ... and just that easily, you are a part! Enjoy the chatting -- Greetings from Apple Valley, CA

    License Info

I received an eMail from authorizations@fcc.gov with every transaction over the last few years ... the most current was in April 2023: "This email is to notify you of the recent grant of your application(s). The Commission currently provides access to the official version of your electronic licenses through License Manager in the Universal Licensing System (ULS) or by email. ..."
  16. Here is the user guide for the DTR 410 / 550 / 650 family 9980384r89-o_dtr_eng.pdf (motorolasolutions.com) those radios are unlikely to be available as "new" any more. The current DTRs are the 600 and 700 that play well together and differ as outlined here:

    Real name

... a good number of members use their callsign. Knowing what information one can find on the FCC / ULS page, it cannot get "more real" than that Welcome to the forum !!!
  19. I am completely confused and surprised -- you, sir, clearly fooled me !!! All this time, I had you down as a paper plate guy ...
  20. Quick upfront question: Are both antennas measure gain the same way? - dBi vs dBd - If they use the same unit, the higher number is clearly achieving more gain. ... However, the concept of gain is not that straight forward (pun intended) but rather directional. You achieve gain through "focus" and now theory and reality are drifting apart. If you are using a stationary narrow beam antenna to reach a specific stationary receiver, gain is somewhat easy: More gain, better performance! - Easy because of the simple radiation pattern. But, if you put an "omnidirectional" high gain antenna onto a pickup-truck, you are introducing a lot of variables! Suddenly, the specific radiation pattern of the specific antenna has to deal with the specific mounting point and the metal around that and interference and ... Again, in theory, higher gain is desirable. In the real world, the outcome cannot be easily predicted by numbers on the box.
  21. While you are avoiding detection by the neighbor who does not like you ... HOAs are fun !!! ... I also like to point out "better" HT antenna alternatives such as Slim Line 465 MHZ (smileyantenna.com) That one got me into our local repeater when the stock antenna failed. However, there are other HT antenna options and somebody else might have a different favorite. Back to preparing my HOA board meeting (coming up on Tuesday) ... why did I have to raise my hand ?!?
  22. I just like to point out how cool and calm and uninvolved I am in this thread !!! Not bad for a "sarcastic" HAM
  23. Don't quote me on that, but I do not think that the FCC has jurisdiction over that part of the natural phenomenon. Again, it might be some visibility issue on my end ...
  24. @WSAB827 - You clearly needed another hobby Welcome !!!
