  1. Glad it's working. Trying to work out all the settings with the different frequency and tones and offsets makes my head spin. There are a lot of very knowledgeable and friendly people on this site that have helped me either directly or indirectly with explanations on things. If you have anymore questions please ask and someone will have the answer or know where to direct you. Enjoy the GMRS community.
  2. Hi jmcconomy, The GMRS V-1 is a nice radio. I have one and use it often. To program the radio using chip is not hard once you understand what info goes where. I will try to explain it so I don't confuse you. For example using a repeater on channel 18. If the input is 467..625, the output is 462.625. If you have a PL tone of 555.5 (not a real tone, just used as an example) , here is what you would enter in chirp. Repeater channel 18 for the GMRS V-1 is line #18 in chirp. Frequency = 462.625 Tone Mode = TSQL Tone & Tone Sql = 555.5 ( enter actual tone from MyGMRS.com) Cross Mode = Tone-Tone That should get your repeater channel programmed in. If you have any other questions, I will try to answer them Hope this helps and enjoy your radio.
  3. HI Pantherpaw9, I was not able to try and reach a repeater from 285, After I left home I found out my radio's battery was dead. Oh well, I will try again later.
  4. I think I am going to be on 285 tomorrow and will see what repeater can hit with my ht Sent from my Vivo 8 using Tapatalk
  5. Not getting too technical, mainly because I don't know all the facts, the reason you can reach the repeaters is because on their height. The line of site is better and the terrain is not as much of a factor like it is going from radio to radio. If you could have both 4w radios as high as the repeater you could talk a great distance. 6. Hi Pantherpaw9, The 4Seasons repeater is not part of the North Georgia GMRS network so they would not be able to talk to you on the Sassafras Repeater. If they can reach the Pine Log repeater from their location, you would be able to talk to each other since the repeaters are linked. They may be able to reach Sassafras from there. I can not say for certain, but I think I am able to reach Pine Log from I285 and Roswell road. With out being in the area I can not remember, getting too old. Looking at the NG GMRS membership list it appears that you also got the Zello link and they could use that with their smart phones.
  7. Glad it worked out. Sorry for adding an extra 0 in the offset. Sent from my Vivo 8 using Tapatalk
  8. I sent you a PM with the information. Hope it helps.
  9. How did you program your Baofeng? Did you use chirp or did you program it using the keypad? If you are using chirp I can send you the file with the correct settings. If you are using the keypad then I can send you those setting also. Let me know which you prefer and I will PM them to you.
  10. The GMRS V-1 is listed as 5W. Now if i am in my car trying to use it with the attached antenna then the sound quality is not too good but stick it out the window and it's good. I usually have it hooked up to my mag mount. If the net is not on Thursday the it might be on Friday. I have not been on it in awhile. My house is located in a radio signal void. I have to go outside to get a good and consent signal. That is with the radio and cell phones. It's funny to see neighbors walking around outside trying to get a good cell signal. That's with AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile, ect. Some days are better than others.
  11. I'm part of the North Ga GMRS group and that repeater is working. Can you check to see if the radio has the correct PL tones entered? You said the manual said it was pre-programmed with the correct ones but you never know. I have a GMRS V1 that keeps turning off the transmit setting. You may want to check on that. Since you said you could reach the repeater with your Baofeng, listen for the weekly net and ask for help during that time. Everyone is very helpful on the net. If they don't know the answer, someone will find it for you. I think it is now on Thursdays @ 8pm. Good luck.
  12. Hi Pantherpaw9, Welcome to the forums. Your Tera should be able to reach the repeater as long the repeater antenna is high enough. I can reach the local repeater where I am at from more than 20 miles away. Mygmrs site list the area of coverage at 100 miles. Not sure how far one can reach it with an hand held but I know some people are farther away from the repeater that me. You probably don't have the pl tones set up correctly. There are a lot of people here that know a lot more than I and they are very helpful and should be able to tell you what you need to know. Let us know the area you are from and someone should be able to help. Welcome to the wonderful world of GMRS
  13. Thanks for the info. Did not think it would be a problem but you never know anymore.
  14. Flying to NY state next week and will be driving back. I want to bring a HT in case of emergency while on the road. Will the TSA allow a HT in your carry on? Thanks in advance.
  15. Hi Dan, I have not received the e-mails for the last few weeks. I just went to the main site and under preferences, I selected to receive the updates. I will let you know if they start again.
