As the owner of 4 Midland mobiles right now (3 MXT275 - 1 MXT575) I admit I had some hesitation with trying to program them on the fly - which isn't easy because they use their own metrics and it's just confusing.
That said - if you can stop and watch what you're doing and have that chart with you to make the changes, I guess one could get along that way. I tend to use my own repeater and just stick with it and the TX/RX CTCSS tones on everything.

Thank you for the reply. I like the Midlands and quality of the product. But I am leaning towards Wouxun for their quality and the ability to have so many repeaters already put into the radio. I could pre set up long trips with all the repeaters I want.
How well does the 275 get out? Because I am between the 20W and 50W on my decision.

@OffRoaderX Love the photos! I have seen you guys on YT wheeling also. Would love to come out sometime and catch a trail or two with you guys.
@bd348 Hey I love seeing rigs no matter what. I like seeing ideas and you guys personalities in your rigs. I find it interesting.
@NHPLAY I am wanting some snow myself. It would be my first time in my Jeep playing in snow. Can not wait! Post a couple pics my friend. Would like to see your ride.

@TheNevilleKid yeah he has gotten me with his subliminal messages a couple times too. Jeep looks good, any more plans or upgrades for the future?

I agree, looks like Santa is wanting a new radio for himself.

I’m the same way. I don’t off-road just to be off-roading, although it looks fun.
I off-road to get from one place to another and I intentionally choose the easiest route for my 4-Runner.I use to do light dirt/gravel roads in my Jeep. Then I climbed a pretty rutted out hill and was hooked. Now I want to go hit trails and see what the Jeep can do without being dumb and trying to hurt it. I like to be easy and be smart about trailing. I only want to fix something if I have to. I do not get wild and just break things for fun.

I have added channels for repeaters that will cover me for trips I know I take at least yearly. Also Have programmed channels for when I wheel in other states. I feel this has me ready for traveling and meeting new people along the way.

Just getting into the whole GMRS world.
I obtain my GMRS license and a buddy gets his license.
We are 100 miles apart and there is a repeater that is half way between us claiming to have a 100 mile broadcast range. If we get permission from that repeaters owner, we would then be able to communicate with each other?
Is my thinking correct?
Would we be able to use the lowly Baofengs?
Thank you in advance.
If you both have a good radios that get out and both are able to hit repeater, then yes.

@BoxCar since I went Wouxun for my handheld and I know they are great radios I really want to have the same brand in my Jeep. Nothing against the others.

Very good idea. Teaching the younger generation about radios!

I am looking at a radio for my Jeep. Midlands is for sure in the mix I just want more programable channels.

Any idea if frequencies for logging roads may migrate to GMRS? Who decides and does the posting?
I have no clue for the logging frequencies. I just use 16 for wheeling and if that channel is too busy we just move to another. Of course I am pretty new to off roading but I also like things simple. I can say I am liking that I started using GMRS. Programming and using repeaters I am making some good friendships.

Had my GMRS within 48 hours

Wonder if you ever found any radio buddies in Conneticut.?

@WRPG745 @marcspaz Dickey and Daniel both can be done in stock if you are careful, pick good lines and take some bypasses. We had an Old stock TJ on 30" tires do both trails. Marc, once you get past the Gatekeeper, then the tight switchback on Daniel you will reach the 4 choice hill of Daniel. The far right is the hardest and go down in difficulty moving left. Very technical except for the easiest (far left) but it's all rocks going up. Enjoy! We had a blast at Uwharrie. Below is the TJ that did all the trails at Uwharrie.

@Extreme Sorry about the dog. I actually only have 1 badge so far, but the wife and I love to travel so they give us a reason to travel and trail. Plus I like the badges. We hope to be out that way at some point. Looking very forward to it.

Announcing location, when you move around full time.

I would just announce Call Sign, Location at the time and that you are mobile. To me that's good enough.
