  1. I have the V-1 and a BAOFENG UV-5r. The USB to radio cable should be the same for both. I have the BAOFENG branded cable, and programming the 5r is just fine thru CHIRP. The problem is when I connect up my V-1, CHIRP says I didn’t select the correct model. Checked everything, even changed ports, but it still comes up with the same error msg......Thoughts? Yes, I made sure I selected BTECH and V1 in the drop downs.
  2. I just bought the KPG-49D software. This works almost like CHIRP. The only problem I had was finding the setup files, which are not exe files. When I went to read the 880, I first had to select my COM port, which for me was port 5. After that it was straight forward with programming. I’m a member of NGGMRS network, and my 880 had some Freqs programmed in. I changed the names from ie, ATL-600 to the repeater name only. I also programmed in the normal GMRS channels, 1-7, 15-22. I drive from NE Georgia to Montgomery, AL every 3rd week, so I plan to program ABCD with the 4 repeaters in our linked network that I use on my trip. I have heard that I can program a DTMF mic to change channels, plus have the ABCD buttons mimic the radios ABCD.
  3. If your audio quality is low, try turning the compander on. It may not make a difference on your radio, but then again no 2 radios are alike, even the same models.
  4. The repeaters are up in Chatt for the North Georgia GMRS network. I travel from NE Georgia to Montgomery every 3 weeks, and am able to talk almost all the way to Montgomery in our network. I don’t see much on your I-75 route. Some planning would have to made on your part as far as channels and PL tones used for each. May trip takes me “thru” four repeaters in our network. Good luck on your trips, and use the scan mode to find active users.
  5. I have the Midland 115 for mobile use. It works great and I hit a repeater that is more than 40 miles from my house here in NE Georgia. That being said, I also use a BTECH V1 hand held that hits that same repeater. I lived in Corinth about 10 years ago, so I know the topography of the area. What you plan on using should work great. I would suggest not using the repeaters. Pick a channel that all of you could meet on. Set up a PL tone for all the radios. Don't use 141.3 as that seems to be one that is favored for most folks. For antennas go to the website " antennafarm". I have not bought from them, but their reputation is very, very good. If any of your stations have HOA that prohibits outside antennas, then Antennafarm has something that can be used in a attic space.
