  1. I verified through the raadio and I do not se a 88.5 set, I think it was a bad copy over.
  2. Hello, I have recently started to try and get into radio for a hobby. I have a computer background, so I am working with a bit of a learning curve. I tend to learn by visualisation and hands on. So I am starting this discussion to further my understanding. I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum for this. So theoretically what would it take to create a national GMSR repeater network with voip interconnects? For VOIP interconnects I was thinking of a Linux box running Asterics. I have seen a repeter modul available for it. What I am not sure of is what would be the best radio set up? Internal cards or external radios. What would you recommend for the repeater controller and radios? How should the system be based on a point to point linkage or via regional control clusters in a star or cloud formation? What kind of message controls and heartbeat systems would be needed? Has this already been done? Well there are a few questions to get the ball rolling.

  5. I just ran through the channels with a cobra radio, and receiving fine from it.. I pulled the chan list from chirp, and I verified no cts dts codes are entered. I have not heard any kids etc when mobile, or stationary using a 2 meter dipole in an l shape. I can pick up 2 meter trafic and local dispatch channels. Thanks, John
  6. As another new license holder, I have seen a lot of conflicting information out on the internet. So my question is is there common frequency numbering? I have seen some radios were chan 1 is xxx.xxx and a different freq on another radio. Also is there a common travel frequency? Or better yet, is there a faq around here that I have not found? Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks, John WQZZ765
  7. Are there any active Iowa users? How about nets? I have been listening for a while, but have not heard anyone on the air. Just curious Thanks, John
