well i actually ended up getting 2 radios, a tk-860 and a tk-8160. both work good. the 860 is my base and the 8160 my mobile.i stayed away from midland. did allot of reading before i ordered. decided old kenwood commercial radios (which i've always enjoyed) would be a good fit for me.

google nwi. they are interconnected from north west indiana south dakota, chicago, etc. nice bunch of gentlemen there.

HI GUYS. i got the antenna, and the programming cable and software, but still waiting on the radio. i hope i can find someone on the air to talk at. i am using my ham radio which does do gmrs, but its VERY quiet out there.

Hi just wanted to introduce myself. i'm new to gmrs, and have already learned some things involving it. i have been looking over the forum here, lots of good stuff. i have tried to reach out to see if any one is out there on the air, but like most of the ham repeaters, no one is about, and most of the repeaters are no longer up and running. i am also a ham operator, and enjoy the occasional rtty contest. i have a tk-860 on order, and i should have most everything i need for mobile gmrs by the end of next week. anyways....
