  1. My current antenna is attached to my roof on an old existing directv mount that was already on roof and grounded, I'm hoping the new comet will swap right in with the 239 to n adapter and I wont need to much else
  2. I've seen some good reviews online for the 10 1/2 foot comet gmrs (commercial) base antenna, I ordered one and it should be coming in by Monday. I'm replacing my current existing antenna and ordered a 239 to n adapter. Anyone have experience first hand with the comet?
  3. Pretty much any handheld gmrs is capable of transmitting at 2 watts, but since you mentioned repeaters I assume that you are looking for about a 2 watt repeater capable handheld?
  4. Try driving closer to the repeater and see if you can connect. The current version of the gmrs-v1 is only 2 watts, most data listed online is for the original version. You really won't get very far with only 2 watts on the stock antenna if you have any obstructions to your line of sight.
  5. As an added bonus, I took apart both of my bad mics and was able to make 1 good one out of the 2
  6. New mic just came in and everything is good now
  7. That is correct when your radio is on a repeater channel
  8. To use a repeater with the gmrs-v1 you don't set the rx & tx frequencies on seperate a&b channels. In your case you would set either channel a or b on rept20 which is channel 20 repeater it will then receive on 462.675 and transmit on 467.675 automatically. Then go to menu 12 (t-dcs) and turn on for 123 code, while on a repeater channel your 2 radios will not work in simplex (directly between each other) because they are transmitting and receiving on different channels. If you still cannot get onto the repeater then you are too far from the repeater to reach with your radio, OR the repeater has been modified/taken out of service and not updated in the database.
  9. Don't know why it double posted, sorry about that
  10. Setup: Duracomm 14amp power supply, ed fong gmrs antenna approx 12ft high on roof mounted to vent pipe, 50 ft of rg8x. I had a midland mxt275 running through this setup already with no problems Test: requested radio checks through the linked net, I can hear the repeater tone after rx. One of the mics is a dtmf and tones come through fine. Also tried simplex to handheld with no luck. Also tried monitoring using mygmrs.com homepage live stream web link to repeater network. Tested: I have a tk880-1 ver2.0, a tk880-1h ver1, a kmc27, a kmc28, 3 mic cables (2 aftermarket, 1 oem) I swapped back over to the mxt275 and it still works just fine. Will go back into programming and check everything again, I'm pretty new to all of this so I may have messed up somewhere. New mic should be arriving today from ebay to try as well.

  12. That is also assuming no Dcs (privacy codes), dcs codes are used to filter out incoming traffic so you hear only the traffic you want to. Pretty much every repeater has some sort of Dcs code configured on it's receive frequency.
  13. When you have the mxt275 on channel 15 without the "rp" repeater icon it will transmit & receive on 462.550 . When you select the repeater channel 15 (with the "rp" icon) you will continue to receive on 462.550 but transmit at 467.550 . What that means is that you can still receive and hear traffic from a repeater on the non-repeater channel, but when you transmit the repeater will not hear you because it is looking to receive at the 467.550 . Without the frequency separation used in repeater "rp" mode, nobody on the repeater will hear your transmission except any station that is within direct simplex range of your transmission.
  14. Thanks to user axorlov I was able to get past the issue I was having but ended up with having a new issue. Neither of my oem mics are working with either of my radios, possible that both mics are bad. Got another one coming in the mail from ebay to try. They will both key up the radio but no audio is transmitting.
  15. I know this is an old topic, but I'm having the same issue previous original poster experienced. Can anyone please point me in the right direction for the tk-880-1 v2 latest firmware?
  16. I currently have a midland gmrs mobile in my truck and one in my home setup as a base station. I've started studying for ham license and I am starting to try to get a plan together to outfit house and truck with ham mobiles. My question is how much space between the 2 different antennas should I plan for?
  17. I have the same model handhelds so I tried to recreate the same issue on my radios last night. Mine won't play nice with each other either when using Dcs tones. I plan on messing around with them some more to see if I can figure it out, but if you find the solution let me know.
  18. I bought the dual ptt baofeng speaker mic model qhm22d, it works really well and only around $23. Only thing is, unlike the uv82 the 2 ptt buttons aren't next to each other. The ptt1 is on the top of the speaker mic and ptt2 is on the side, so I use the 2nd/bottom station on the uv82 as primary. Baofeng also has a single ptt speaker mic model qhm22 that is the same price but I haven't tried one of those.
  19. I have a midland mxt275 in my truck, I know it isn't the greatest radio, but it works for me and the price was right. Bought it on sale direct from midland for around $130
  20. Well I learned something new today, TY berkinet
  21. Your family also needs to identify your call sign with their identifier at their 1st transmission and at least once every 15 minutes after. For example: abcd123 unit 1 (2,3, & so on) or abcd123 handheld 1 or Abcd123 (their name) something of that nature that identifies your licensed call sign and each authorized user of it
  22. 1. interference is always possible, but unlikely w/ your wifi 2. Midland stuff is extremely basic & simple in operation, the baofeng will have more features, but requires more configuration/understanding to use. 3. Antenna in attic is better than none at all, but for what really helps gmrs signal is the antenna height and less obstructions to line of sight 4. You could be hearing a transmission that uses squelch code like Dcs, or you may not be transmitting strong enough to reach them, even though they can reach you 5. You're already here
