  1. Thank you for your kind response. Having experienced the simplex node ROIP issues and the Zello app, I agree with your points.
  2. Hello, New to the radio world. I messed with CB as a kid, ran a radar gun system in the navy, and maintained IT networks as a career I just retired from. Going to test for my HAM ticket as soon as I have consistently better scores on my test exams. Be that as it may, I'm located in the tip of the mitt of Michigan. The closest published GMRS repeater is 116 miles away, as the crow flies. I built a simplex node and joined a linked network. Its okay for what it is, but I really like the looks of this network. From what I can tell there is no way to connect to the myGMRS network without a) using an established repeater a) building a repeater (which is a non starter due to lack of expertise and cash!). Am I correct in my understanding that the only way I can connect to the myGMRS network is to travel to an established coverage area? thanks for listening. Pat
  3. Yeah, of course it's tempting to rig up. I'm just starting in GMRS and HAM. When I was researching both I came across linking GMRS to the internet. That's the first project. I'm not licensed yet on HAM, but studying daily. Due to the pandemic there is no local in person testing. I know that preppers have worked hard in setting up canned repeaters, bug out kits and all. That's real cool use of the technology and looks like in a group talk setting it is the cat's pajamas. Often I wonder how useful it will be if there is a Red Dawn (crappy movie IMHO). I've talked with all sorts from bunkers to organic gardeners, and comms isn't the highest priority across that spectrum. For me it's a hobby, one that I won't pump tons of money into, though it looks like a ton of fun to build a fully equipped GMRS station.
