  1. Thank you Michael - just the information that I was looking for!!!
  2. Along this line, the feed line that came with the mag mount [NMO] is six meters long - enough to practically wrap around the car. I only needed about 3 meters to reach where I needed to go, so the remainder is coiled up on the car floor in the back where the MTX 275 resides. Would I be wise to cut down the feed line to the needed length and solder on a new connector? OR - does the excess feed line make any real difference? First GMRS radio - obviously - I have both the 6db and 3 db NMO antennas from Midland. Any feedback is appreciated.
  3. I have a Midland 275, and the repeater access thing is still confusing to me. So it appears that I need to select the correct channel for a given repeater - in this instance the frequency match is channel 21 - THEN I would need to program in the appropriate CTCSS code, which I'll have to look up or get from the repeater owner / manager. Correct? Apparently just turning the repeater feature to ON is not enough. [The repeater owner is local and extremely helpful - I just hate bugging him all the time. ]
  4. Yikes!! I put a mag-mount from Midland on the SUV. I'd better check it out!! My experience with my Midland MTX 275 has been similar. I listen and pick up things in scan mode: mostly family radio and businesses using the GMRS frequencies. I think the local Wal-Mart is the most active. One day I did pick up a conversation on channel 17 between two newer GMRS users that sounded very similar to my situation. I waited until they finished then did a CQ with my call sign.....nothing. Yesterday I went through all the hi power channels looking for anyone to respond. Nothing. I'm wondering if this is due to taking the tall 6db Midland antenna off the mount and replacing it with the 3db Ghost antenna. I kept knocking the taller antenna when doing through drive-through places. 3db less gain must really make a difference. I never did try the tiny mag antenna that came with the radio itself. GMRS is pretty dead in the Kansas City Area....at least for me.
