  1. for my tk880h v1, (i know its not a 780 just sharing info) i use a bluemax49 kpg46 cable, and for software i use the Kenwood 49d software on win 10 and it works flawlessly. would have never thought to try chirp since the Kenwood software is pretty good allowing copy and paste and direct dts/ctss code entry instead of having to use a drop down..

  2. i wouldnt trust that to hold the head from falling off the way we bounce around some times, plus when it get super cold here they tend to fall off the window or anything else. what i used is what i call plumbers tape or metal strap, have no clue what its really called. googled it and ace was in the shoping results

here is a link to ace hardware.

  3. i did mine this way. the radio head is mounted to the plastic with what i call plumbers strap or tape, then i used a few small bolts and drilled thru the plastic to mount the head. the radio is attached to the factory amp in the knee area. if u put it here u have to divert the floor heater vent so it doesn't blow on the radio, here its get s below zero so i just dont use floor heat unless i'm just warming up the jeep. I'm going to make a mic cable and run it down to the middle of the am/fm radio area somewhere so i dont have the mic cable like it is. can't decide if i want to-do the pass or driver side and i think i'm just going to try to find a cat5e wall mount end or something to make it look good

  4. i use to use a jackery 240 to power my kg1000g and i dont have amps but the highest wattage i ever seen it draw was around 130watts im sure someone smarter then me can convert this into amps.....the damn math and formulas are keeping me from my tech ticket....

  5. i would only use the touch free ones, anyone with a cloth or material that touches the car can and will scratch the paint but more importantly they can wrap around the antenna and rip it off....funny story...i had a 93 s10 blazer and went to a touch wash and the cloth got caught on the handle to swing open the spare tire carrier (factory) and then pulled it into the rear machine and got them stuck the operator had to shut it down so it could get free....nvr went to a touch wash again unless it was wearing a bikini....

for those in the 303......this was in brighton at the car wash next to the grease monkey and lowes

  6. ok, these are def amazon cheapy's, however i had the exact same set on my zj without any issues. on my zj i did not have a spod center i just built my own harnesses for the lights. is there any other tests that i can do to help locate if its ingress or outgoing noise? also should i ground the body of the spod box or should i not worry about that since its bolted to the fender (however did not clean paint off either surface)

  7. so i just installed a spod type box and now i've got this issue when i turn on my lights thru it i lose receive on some freqs and not others. i've got a few ferrite beads on the power and switch wires and today i used aluminum reflective tape on the inside of the cover to shield it from any outgoing vibes (tin hat brah). in the AM i'm going to try a different set of light and see if its there. anyone got any other ideas or dealings in this issue?

  8. welcome to the rabbit hole....

there are some pretty decent cheap gmrs radios out there. they all have there good and bad points some more then others. ive used uv5rs to kg935. they all do the job some better some worse.

if i was you i would go with the gmrs, if u get one of these radios u have the option of putting on a external antenna for when u want to start talking a little more (u know u will ? )

wish i could give u a better answer but theres to many variables and with my limited experience,i feel it really boils down to personal preferences and features u really like. me i like wouxons group scan feature and dual channel monitoring with ease.

before u bite the bullet go thru the forum and there are lots of threads about the different ht's, also check out Offroaderx's youtube page he has lots of info and it seems like your not a "sad ham" so u would enjoy his content.

  9. this is why in these types of situations your and your kiddos need to have a predetermined communication plan. doesnt have to be all huge and complex, just say like in the event of a power failure you guys automaticly turn on the radios to a set channel that yall agree on.

this is exactly the situation when most people try to depend on there phones, however even cell sites need power and backup batterys only last so long and thats even if the company has kept them up(we all know that the cell providers here in the us are awesome and never lie or cheat so we dont have to worry ? )

  10. with the v1 programing you have to put the repeater on the channel that is the freq of the repeater ie. for a 600 repeater you have to use channel r17 or 17r or 25, dont remember exactly what it was on the v1 i programed, i also used the software to do the one i did. so i set up the tones and the freq shift in it

  11. i notice you dint include the 771g, its a beasty antenna and does great for the gmrs freq as thats what its tunned for, i have 2 of them one on a uv5r and one one a gmrsv1, yesterday i went for a hike and hit the repeater that was over 45ish miles. granted i was prob about 9000ft but the repeater is in the denver. ive hasd no issues with the 771g the others however i cant speak for as i dont have them..

  12. i have mine in my center console. my center console is not a large one as its in a 95 jeep. i havemy fan set to be on all the time, and ive nvr had it overheat on me yet. i also live in colorado so its def not because it hasnt been hot...however for mine i did cut a hole in the bottom of the console to run the wires thru so that may be helping. pictures are in the jeep and radios thread
