  1. I want to install a mobile GMRS radio in my Jeep JL. I saw a complete kit offered for my model, The GMR45 Jeep radio kit from Rugged Radios. I don't have any experience in installing radios in vehicles, so this is why this model caught my attention. I'm having a little trouble finding actual user feedback on this radio, so I'm asking if anyone here can give honest feedback on this product.
  2. Nope. I know where you stand from your YouTube channel. I just dont like being called out saying programming software may be useful. Im not checking everyone's radio compatability for the software.
  3. I watch NotaRubicon on YouTube. Love his channel. The hammy comment wasnt directed at him.
  4. He may fit in here, not too sure whether I do. I offered friendy advice and apparently fell into a gotcha trap. Starting to smell "hammy" in here.
  5. Actually I leave it up to the individual to determine whether CHIRP is compatible with their given radio. I assure you and everyone else here I make no claims to expertise or knowledge superiority. I was only making a suggestion. No need to beat me down if my answer didnt satisfy the crowd.
  6. It sounds like you may be over thinking it. Relax and breathe. If you're not using a repeater, using GMRS is just as simple to use as the walkie talkies you may have used as a kid. If you want to use repeaters, just take your time and do a little research. This site is a great place to start. I also recommend using a programming software such as CHIRP to set up your repeater channel list.
  7. It's interesting that your compadres in the HAM world chastise you for using the airwaves as a form of communication rather than just a medium to run their cools gadgets on. I look at my radios like any other appliance. I'm not a HAM guy, but since you are, 73's.
  8. I see GMRS as just an appliance of sorts. I don't give two hoots about all the technical stuff. I have our local repeaters programmed into our radios and called it good.
  9. Honestly, I don't really have any interest in "carding" whoever I'm talking with to see if they have a license. I also don't get too wound up if they don't use their callsign. I use mine, but that's just me. I see GMRS as just another form of communication and I have no interest in the radio hobby as such. For a while I thought I may get my technician's license, but decided it wouldn't be useful for family use. It's impractical for each family member to have to learn a bunch of radio trivia just to be able talk back and forth.
