Uh oh ... having spent nearly 30 years in police cars with low band, high band, UHF, trunking, T-Band, etc. radio antennas right over my head or on the trunk lid may explain my behavior! ?

If I decide to route the coax straight through the interior and out the exterior wall without a bulkhead connector, is there a rule of thumb as to going through vs. over the baseboard? It's a typical painted drywall inside with a flat (no contour) baseboard and the exterior is rough textured stucco.

I have a rooftop antenna mount on my SUV. If I sometimes attach my rooftop cargo rack can I have the antenna poke up between the bars without problems? My rack is similar to the one on my truck seen here.

I am looking for the device that is threaded to connect antenna cable from one side of the wall to the other so I can get my base antenna outside. I don't know what it's called but I thought it looked like a threaded rod that only needed a small hole through the wall. You connected a standard antenna cable on either end, one to the radio and the other to the antenna. Don't know what it is called, where to find it, or if it works well. Thanks for any info. Newbie

I am thinking about taking an extra mobile GMRS radio, adding a power supply and using it at home as a base unit. Is there an antenna that will work INSIDE the house? I know it won't be optimum but for now no drilling through the wall. Also, any danger of brain fry using a mobile radio in the 25-40 watt range indoors? THANK YOU.

I am thinking about painting my antenna cable (mag mount) to blend in better with the car. It will be a flexible paint and I would rough up the cable surface and prime it. Any issues with this idea? Thanks for any advice.

I want to route the cable through the weatherstrip. What is the recommended way to create a small hole to push the cable through. Can I drill it, use a hot phillips screwdriver, cut a small "X", etc.?

Using a Laird magnetic mount.

There is only a small gap between the top of my rear hatch and the roof of my SUV where I was hoping to snake my antenna cable. It squeezes RG-58a/u cable a little. I don't know if this cable is "forgiving" enough to survive the pinch or if I should grind a small notch to prevent the pinch. Any input appreciated.

My AM/FM antenna is the same as this. What is the minimum recommended distance forward of it that I should mount my GMRS antenna? Using a magnet mount with the cable under aluminum cord mold painted to match the car color.

I am considering a Laird brand Ultra Phantom antenna (450-512)on a Laird NMO Mini Magnetic mount for my upcoming mobile GMRS radio installation. I will be using a thin aluminum cable/cord cover painted the same color as my SUV to conceal the cable. I've heard good and bad about the "phantom" style antennas but looking for input on this particular brand. Any input appreciated. The low profile of the Phantom is needed around town, for garaging, etc. but I may get a 1/4 wave antenna and swap it out when getting out into the boondocks. THANK YOU.

I want to run a low profile antenna for my GMRS rig. Are all pucks equally bad or is the Larsen brand puck OK?
