  1. I have watched a number of POTA & SOTA videos and they are running the radio audio out to the recorder and then putting a head set on the earphone output of the recorder to monitor it. It may work out to a speaker also. I will see what I can get working and what I used when I am happy with it. WRNX920 POTA- Parks on the Air SOTA-Summits on the Air
  2. Yes that sounds like a good starting point with a splitter. I have had to make adapters as not all pin outputs are the same. So I will see where this goes. I will update this if I come up with something I like. Thanks WRNX920
  3. I am wanting to connect a digital voice recorder to record call signs, names and local data on contacts made while on the GMRS & HAM bands. I have seen pigtail setups that are used in aviation to record pilot and tower transmissions. Has anybody setup something like this that might share some ideas. I have some hearing loss from to much 2nd amendment fun & work in the early years and sometimes need to have operators go phonetic and slow so I can write things down for my log entry's. Any ideas would be great. Ron WRNX920 KW7RNX

  5. Thanks for all your suggestions, I will look at the ones you identified on the used market when I start looking. WRNX920
  6. I put a Radioddity DB25-G into service a few weeks ago. It has on the menu a gain control adjustment of 0 to 127. It comes as 0 as a factory setting. After some comments on the quality of my transmissions ( clipping of some letters like s & t ) I adjusted my distance from and angle to the microphone. I still got some sub par reports so I raised the gain to 38 about 30% of the range and have had no reports if clipping. My question is what does gain control on the microphone affect ?
  7. Starting with 2 HT UV-5X's with good aftermarket antennas. Yes the antennas were a performance upgrade. Programmed about 6 repeaters in and am pleased with these HT's to hit and receive repeaters in my area. Added a Radioddity DB25-G 25 Watt mobile in the car and with my little digital SWR / RF Power meter was able to get down to a 1.14 to 1 reading putting out 20 measured watts. Monitoring 4 channels at a time this radio picks up a lot of radio traffic. I will be looking for a better HT in the next few months and hope to keep it's cost in the $ 100 to $ 180 range. It needs to have a removeable antenna so I can put what I want on it for performance, needs to come close or match the 5 watt output ( my uv-5x's are hitting 4.9 ) and not be a all on one chip design. So give me your suggestions on what to consider. This will be my SHF grab and go if the time comes. WRNX920 Listening
  8. I am new to this so my question is can I use a 50 watt dummy load on a 25 watt mobile radio or do I have to more closely match my wattage? I under stand lower dummy on higher radio wattage will produce smoke and bad things will happen, but I don't know if there is a down side with low radio on higher dummy. Any assistance is appreciated.
  9. Programmed and hit two repeaters today. Yes I know that's like a toddler figuring out how to tie thier shoes, but I am on a low point of a ever climbing knowledge curve. Thanks for all the replies and feedback.
