I'm studying for my tech license and just discovered something interesting. As a pilot that flies international I have to have a restricted radiotelephone license to operate my HF radio. Our HF radio covers many different bands, from 160 meter through 6 meter, and the license says I am "authorized to operate any radio station". The tech license has a lot of restriction for HF, many bands are not allowed and some only for CW. The way I read it though, I, as a holder of the restricted radiotelephone license, could take advantage of the otherwise limited bands and use them for "phone" mode prior to getting my tech license. Being new to all this I might be missing something so I thought I would ask on here.

Man, I can't find anything about brightness either, only thing I found was color, maybe try a different color that is easier on your eyes.

I think I have the hang of this now, there is definitely a learning curve here. You have to do things in a very specific way, right click-paste-select next line. I've got the basics down now thank you all for the help.

I think I discovered where I may have confused you guys. On some of the frequencies I wanted to monitor there is an input frequency (receive from repeater) and an output frequency (transmit to repeater), I was trying to load the output frequency in the offset column and changing the duplex setting to switch as per the instruction from chirp. I had mentioned this in my second post but it was confusing.

I had thought of that but the problem is with chirp, I'm not having any issues once I upload to the radio. Does chyirp know what radio I'm using before I upload? Yes, I'm using it as a scanner until I get my license so I thought there would be more traffic on these freq.s and help me to learn my way around the radio and chirp. The code plug worked, It loaded in to chirp and the radio.
