Well you learned it doesn't stand for the old rock band " Creedence Clearwater Revival" ?

In my book, superhet beats non-superhet, and since I listen a lot more than I transmit, that's important to me.  My choice was between the Midland units and the Wouxun, and because I wanted superheterodyne, I chose the Wouxun.  I also like the features and the programmability.  I don't regret that purchase at all!
It also sent me on a Wouxun buying spree, for some reason.  Seems like every HT they came out with, I bought.

Again we are beating a dead horse. If you want to use some 10 code use it. I can say in Public Safety world very little of the 10 code system is still in play. Other than 10-4 you wont hear it much in public safety. In SAR we have a few "CODES" for critical information but to be honest just go to encryption if we need to discuss that.

I’m not sure it matters. See the bold portion of the preceding quote. It says “or any other network…“
That seems pretty clear but I’d like to point out that the actual wording in the regulations are not phrased that way.

I have a friend with a 400 who’s disappointed because it has had some problems. I don’t know exactly what they are.
If a person doesn’t need C4FM, the ftm6000 looks like a decent radio.

The problem is not the price of ham gear, it is the horrible user experience. Why pay $600 for a radio that has 0 product management? Terrible software, silly menu structures, cheap materials. You don't get much for your dollar. Yaesu's rugged radio design (VX-6R) is almost 20 years old now with what, like six characters to name your channel? Come on man!

Because the big three quit caring & trying.

That is alot of words.  I may have skipped reading one or two as i really only use it for family comms.  My official travel channel is whichever one we agree on ahead of a trip.

This is like the old joke about how 3 people can keep a secret. It works as long as two of them are dead.

That seems to be the only way it’s going to happen on GMRS, agreement on a travel channel.

    1) It's allright.
    2) It's allright. GMRS can be used for whatever purpose by anyone. Being this kids, cute moms of said kids, ugly angry fathers of said kids, sad hams, road flaggers, valet parking lots, you name it. It's a free country.
    3) No, there is not. However, there is sort-of an agreement, explained by gortex2. And there is a certain youtube influenzer pushing something else. It is a free country. But you can always use a scan feature of your radio.

According to the FCC's Rules and Regulations that would be Big NO. Just as the name implies, the Multi Use Radio Service was created for commercial and noncommercial use, even though MURS is in part 95 J.

No thanks. No need to know me or where I am in my opinion. GMRS for me is a utility and not a hang out to meet folks. They have websites for that.

I agree. I don’t want to be geocoded for any of my hobbies.
However, a map showing GMRS clubs might be helpful.

I put it to you that anyone who compares a $20-$50 Baofeng to a radio that costs much more and expects it to perform like that radio that costs much more is the fool. Those are the people you need to watch out for.

Are we arguing about this again ? There is litterly a dozen posts on this. Give it up. IF people follow the rules they will ID, If not it is what it is. I think the pillferation of the CCR ham radio and modification to use on GMRS would be more of a concern....

kerstuff reacted to gortex2 in Which Radios Use ARC4 Encryption?
Many of the MSI radios support ADP/ARC4 encryption. The APX series used to ship free with it but have since changed the model and its still a $0 option.
I think RELM also supports it.
I use a KVL - key loader for all keys, ARC/ADP, AES, DES, DESXL as that's the most secure way to operate. Never was a fan of typing a code in a computer. MSI does allow software key for ADP only.
As to the use case alot of folks use it. All our SAR Radios support ADP and we use it when needed. Nope its not the best encryption but 99% of the scanner world cant decode it so for the "bring the body bag" or similar messages it suites our needs.

Privacy tones help in that sense, but they do not prevent you from being overheard.
