  1. I’m looking for a more rugged GMRS radio . The most rugged GMRS radio I have is the GMRS pro . I’m just not sure it will hold up . The screen being the first thing to break is my guess. I have looked for items that might protect the screen but can’t find any . If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I ordered my GMRS Pro on February 2023 . My antenna came off very easy . I plan on another GMRS Pro , so I hope the antenna comes off . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I like mine . It’s one of the best radios BTECH has. Only thing is I wish there was a exoskeleton made for it and a way to protect the screen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I don’t have the 935G but I have the BTECH GMRS pro. I also have the Wouxun KG805G. That said I like the GMRS pro . I plan on at some time getting another GMRS pro. I like the Bluetooth programing. Another feature I like is the play back feature. It’s a nice tool for range testing and for testing other antennas. I also like the IP67 rating. Also it seems to be a more rugged Baofeng radio . As far as how it receives it does it as well as my other radios. I plan on using GMRS pro while I’m hunting. What I don’t like is the accessory jack . You have to buy a different cable so you can use other Baofeng accessories. I want to also run mine with a Walker Razor. Hearing protection/ headset in one unit.to do that I have to buy a special cable so I can hook my hand Mike and then buy a cable with 3.5 audio connector on each end of the cable. What I’m getting at to hook any one of my or other radios up all I need is the cable with the 3.5 audio jacks . Usually the pro I have to buy the BTech pro accessory cable. At $22.49 just the only problem I have with the pro. As far as regular radio performance it seems to do as well as the KG805G and my BTech V1 &V2 radios . Maybe even better.I’m a BTech fan anyway. 5. I use the Tram ground plane & Tram 1173 NMO mobile antenna. It does fairly well. I think a more dedicated antenna would do better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. In a way I’m glad that I didn’t order one of those jpole antennas. More I dig the more I see that I would not get what I need out of the jpole. I still may get one for a portable repeater project that I’m going to work on at a later date. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Where I live is in southeast Ohio lots of tree’s and hills . My understanding is that unity gain antenna would be more useful for my area . I’m on a hill my location on that hill puts me at the same level as all the trees . If I raise my antenna to 20 feet that puts the top of the antenna approximately the same level as the tops of the trees in front of me and behind me. I can’t go much higher either. Worst part is 50yards from my house the hill I live on goes just a little higher and you can see clearly for 10 miles or more. Now in the winter I can reach 7 miles one way and 10-12 miles the other way . If that helps what kind of antenna would be best for my location? I guessing the Browning/ Tram 4160 seems to be the one to me that makes the most since. I’m using a mobile antenna with a ground plane. Like I said one way from my home I’m getting out 7miles & 10-12 miles the other way . Thats with a radio that is only putting out 20watts. I had the BTech U25 amp when it was working it put out around 30-35 watts hooked to the same antenna setup , I would be able to reach 12-15 miles in the direction I’m reaching 7 miles now . In the other direction using the amp I was getting the same that I am now . I know why that I only got the the same on 10-12 mile direction is because of a hill . Now that is on the road I haven’t tried to see how far out I’m reaching going through the woods. My guess on that is I would reach out further because I could get on hill tops etc. on the road I can’t do that. Also I didn’t mention the distance I was getting with the U25 amp was also during the summer with all the foliage on the trees. I’m assuming that if I upgraded my antenna & power converter and switched to a 50watt radio I most likely would easily reach out 10 mile radius around my base radio . That’s talking the roads around my house. That said through the woods and staying on the ridge tops I could go further. Maybe that bit of information will help you guys have a better idea of what I’m dealing with. I have also went to a bigger coax . It’s not LMR-400 It’s Brownings equivalent there version of LMR-400. Eventually I will , after I get a better power converter,50watt radio and the proper antenna for my area’s conditions I’m sure in certain conditions I might be able to 2-3 miles to what I’m getting now. Still I would like to here from you guys. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I think most of my gmrs radio are like that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Thanks gortex2 , I have been debating on the browning 6140 also came across one that is very similar to it on Amazon. Seem’s to have a lot of good reviews & is the top pick from aAmazon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I just ordered one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I can’t go that high . The only thing is base is higher up than the places I’m trying to transmit to. Once I can reach my max distance I’m going to set up a portable repeater. That’s to reach where my brother’s home is . He lives at the bottom of a hill that’s between us so I will set one up on the ridge above his house . I just wanted to see how good the jpole would be . Now I’m using a Mobile antenna and ground plane. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I’m thinking about getting a j pole tuned for GMRS from KB9VBR . It’s for base station has anyone have experience with this antenna? Trying to get the best range I can here in southeast Ohio. Trees and hills cover most of land . I’m at a high level I get around 8 miles maybe a little more in the winter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. It’s on BTech’s website now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. Sorry I didn’t mean to post the same thing twice . Well I got the 20V2 yesterday. I did some testing. Power was at around 17 watts high and on low 7 watts. Checked SWR with a couple antenna’s I have 1:01 . I figured that . So then with some connectors I have I did some more testing because most of the time this radio is going to be backpack radio. So I needed to see what kind of transmission power lose I was going to have using a UHF barrel connector or the UHF L connector. Tried some pigtails etc. my 17 watts dropped to 15 watts . I figured that would happen. Once I get the power connectors and wire I need for the battery I’m going to use in the 20v2 build . I will do more transmit power testing. Another thing I wanted to say was that on channel 1-7 the 20V2 will only let me transmit on low power . Thought that you could transmit on high on channel’s 1-7 . Maybe that’s just on hand helds . Not sure . Anyway I set the 20V2 up in the car so today I’m going to test it out . See how it sounds away from the base then I’m going to test transmit power in the car . 17. Well today I am supposed to receive my 20V2 20watt GMRS radio today . It’s supposed to go to the post office box . I hope I get today I have had problems when I order from BTECH and then the order comes from AMAZON. Some how the transfer from UPS to USPS the item gets lost. In any case if I get the 20V2 I will let everyone know my thoughts on it . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. So BTECH has added another GMRS mobile radio. It’s 20V2 20 watt radio. The 20V2 has a IP67 rating. All the control is in the mic. much like Midlands MXT275 . Supposed to have 20 watt power output. The 20V2 has 200 customizable channels. NOAA , repeater capable . Over 390 tones it’s also Vox capable. The 20V2 also has a K1 jack so you can use the same accessories as the BTECH hand held units . The mic. is also IP67 rated . One other thing not mentioned about the 20V2 GMRS radio because it is vox capable and has a K1 as jack . It can be used with repeater controller’s such as SURECOM SR-112 or Argent Data Systems ADS-SR1 simplex repeater. Most mobile radios are not compatible with the simplex repeater. So you are limited hand held units. With only 5watts . With the 20V2 GMRS radio you have Vox and a K1 jack . So I would assume with a little experimenting you could make it compatible with the Surcom or the ADS-SR1 and build a , 20watt simplex repeater. So I ordered one today. I’m not going to use my 20V2 for that I’m going to make mine a field portable/backpack radio . That way I have a more powerful radio for base camp. When not using that way it’s going to be in the car. If I like the radio well enough and it works good . I may buy a second 20V2 then build a simplex repeater/parrot. I have a place to put it that 20 watts of power topped with a good antenna. Will be able to reach my brother from my base station. Base to repeater / repeater to brother then bother hand held to repeater . Then repeater to base . So I will let everyone know about my problems with the radio and then I will let everyone know how my pack radio project work with the 20V2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I tried that and when I press the menu button after I select the bandwidth I want it says cancel. The goes back to narrow band. I even tried resetting the radio nothing changed . So most likely I’m going to have to us a computer to be able to change bandwidth. Also my tx power is stuck on high on channels 15-22. So I’m just going to have to buy a cable get the software . That way I’m able to change things . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. The V2 channels 15-22 on high 4.45 on low 1.36 . Channels 23-30 on high I get 4.43 watts and on low 1.36 . On channels 8-14 I’m getting.36 watts. The V1 channels 15-22 I’m getting 5.10 on high . On low 2.36 . On channels 1-7 on high 4.97 on low 2.26 watts. Although on channels 1-7 and the battery charged to 8.2 I get 5.03watts high . Low I might get 2.30 . On channels 8-14 , 4.86 on low 2.30 On my other V1 radios I get anywhere from 4.93 watts on high and on low 2.30 . That’s average on the newer v1 radios .
  22. Well I received my V2 today . First thing I did was put on the meter. High power 4.45 low was 1.40 . I haven’t done any range test . I figure that it’s no more range then my V1 radios. With that said it’s a V1 with a few more features. As for the IP54 rating I don’t see anything that would give it that IP54 rating that the V1 doesn’t have . The flashlight seems to have a bigger bulb. Also the NOAA channels are programmed as is the repeater channel. In a way I wish I would have waited and saved up a little more money and bought a Wouxun KG905, KG935G. Or one of the Wouxun radios that are sold by Better Safe Radios. Honestly I don’t see it being much more then the V1 radios so also figure the V1 has a IP54 rating also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Have any of you guys tried one . I know the reviews on it are mixed . I bought mine to use for a portable simplex repeater build. I think it has the potential to be a decent radio , if your the type that wants to run to the computer and reprogram the radio out of the box . The only problem I have is I don’t have a computer. So my radio is stuck in narrow band . Also the other problem is it’s from the factory one channel off. The last problem I can live with. Any way I took the set screw out of the antenna that way I can replace it with a good antenna. With that said today I was playing around with the RT76P I but a SMA male to SMA male connector on it and then a antenna off my KG805G. According to the signal strength meter on my base radio the Retevis signal strength went from 75 to 120 . I think for $40 it’s a very good radio . Has the potential to be as good as my other GMRS radios. My only question is if I were to get the Tidradio Bluetooth programmer would I be able to program the Retevis RT76P? Also I kinda like the RT76P. Any thoughts would be appreciated. . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I have had decent luck with BTECH. You should contact there customer support. I have had problems with my radios before BTECH replaced them . They just replaced my UV-25x2 radio. I have 3 V1 radios I got mine first V1 when it was being sold as a 5w radio. By the time I ordered my second V1 ,BTECH changed the wattage to 2 watts. Then I Emailed BTECH asking them if the flashlight on my first radio quit working would I have problems . Without question the sent me a new radio. I did not even ask for a replacement. It was the radio only , no antenna or battery. As far as any of the V1 radios I haven’t had a problem other then the flash light one the first radio. As for the wattage on 2 of the V1 radios I get 2.35 on low & on high I get 4.86 . On the third V1 I get 5.10 watts on high . So I hope my V2 has the advertised 5 watts. I have only seen 2 reviews of the V2 they tested them and they had 5w . So if mine is less then 5 I’m sending it back. I’m sure they will make it right . If you can’t tell I’m a BTECH fan. I also have a Wouxun KG805G, and Retevis RT76P . You plus a Baofeng BF-F8 both of those radios are decent radios. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I finally ordered my v2 Friday. Can’t wait till it gets here . I have 3 V1 radios so batteries wont be a problem. I think though I’m still going to get the extended battery or maybe 2 extended batteries. Matter of fact there are a few things I’m wanting from BTECH.[emoji16] possibly by the time I get my V2,I may order my second V2 . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
