  1. I have been looking into using 2 KG-1000s, I already have 2 of them but one of them got fried when i first got it from a reverse polarity.. it would be something that i would prep for and buy part by part over some time.
  2. So, my question, as I am new just got a license and have been thinking about setting up a repeater for family use, I live nearly at the center point of most of my family. I have a few that are 5-10 miles in a few directions. My thought process is setting up a repeater at my house so that the 2 that are farthest apart, opposite directions from my location, can hear each other. Yes there is a local repeater, that I have already gotten permission to use, that I can connect everyone to. But it does get plenty of use, along with me wanting to be able to in the event of an emergency, pack up my system minus the cables and antenna, then deploy on some land somewhere else or use as a mobile repeater to keep everyone in communication with everyone else within my limited maybe 20 mile each direction bubble. Can this be accomplished with just basic handhelds on whatever this simplex is that I keep hearing about?
  3. I found the frequency for the NOAA radio in my area 162.400, which is great but all it does is repeats on a loop the current weather stuff. Is there a frequency that only transmits emergency weather alerts? I saw weather alerts in my radios settings but the info in the manual did not say much on its operation or what it did.
  4. Yes, i have put them in. There was some confusion because PL is CTCSS and DCS is DPL.
  5. Yes, but i spend more than half my day at work up in Waukesha, so the one ive been trying to program manually while waiting for the proper programming cable is Armor 1. I believe i have it programed correctly. I just did not know what the PL/DPL he gave me were since everyone talks about tones and ctcss. I attempted to make contact on the drive home with anyone, i maybe got a response but could not hear them so im not sure.
  6. Except both of the repeaters that I was granted access for sent a note saying to not share their information with anyone. I gained access to both through myGMRS website.
  7. Thank you! I got the numbers put in and will test when im out of my work building, hard to even get a cell signal inside.
  8. I got permission to use the repeaters that are near my house and my work, they sent me pl and dpl numbers. But i dont have pl or dpl in the menu options on my Wouxun kg-935g. I have tx-ctcss and rx-ctcss. Im starting to beat my head against the wall not understanding this. Everyone keeps talking about needing the ctcss tones to use them. But i got pl/dpl tones. One of them fits on the ctcss, for RX, but the TX number is above the max value that is aloud for the tx ctcss in my radio. Please point out the simple thing im missing.
  9. Ill have to check. But it did blow ALOT of smoke out of the back of the radio...
  10. More than likely. So a possibility of saving the radio if thats all that went?
  11. So, I need a little help. I was excited to try to get on the air tonight and make my first transmission. I was setting my wouxun 1000g on a desktop power supply, wouxun dwc30win, I put some quick disconnect pigtails on the wire so I could go between desktop and my vehicle. Unfortunately i only had one side of the pigtails so I reversed one for the desktop power supply to make it work. In all of my excitement I forgot that I had done that and hooked it into the power supply backwards. Of course when I powered up, the radio smoked out. Can it be repaired? Or did I just kill it permanently? I still have my handheld radios, but have not figured out how to get them online to do anything more than listen in. Any help there would also be helpful.
