  1. My first (about 6 months ago when I received my callsign) was the Baofeng UV-9G. It's a great little radio, and I still use it often, and my daughter uses it all the time, too. #2 was the BTech GMRS-V2 which I really like. It has some features that you'd only expect from high end radios. This one is the one my wife carries. My latest purchase was a Wouxun KG-UV9G Pro. I was a little shocked at the difference in usability, sound quality, and reception when I stepped up to a Superheterodyne radio. Overall though, all of my radios have a purpose, and all are a very good fit for their purpose.
  2. According to CHIRP, it stands for "Search". Strangely, with my DB25-G, the CO setting doesn't work correctly. With my handhelds, if I set them to CO, it will remain on that channel until it detects 5 seconds of silence. As long as those communicating key up within 5 seconds after the other one lets go of the PTT, it will stay on that channel. This doesn't seem to be the case on my DB25-G. As soon as one person lets off the button, it starts scanning again. This is actually the ONLY complaint I have with the DB25-G.
  3. Oh I'm sure they'll fix it, the question is "when". I have 2 computers that are able to be upgraded to 11, and I have held off for this very reason. I never install a new OS right away, because I have too many programs that may or may not be ready for the new version.
  4. I'm not sure how much help this will be, but will CHIRP run on Windows 11? I just got my DB25-G yesterday, and while the Radioddity software worked fine on my Win 10 machine, I much prefer CHIRP.
  5. This is a follow-up to my last post: Is there an "ideal" group of presets that work better than others when setting up the squelch presets? Since CHIRP fixed the issue with maintaining changes made to the squelch presets, I've tried several configurations that I've found online, as well as some that I've made up myself. Here are the ones that I've found work the best for me, with my preferred group listed first: 0-2-8-16-24-32-40-48-56-64 - My preferred presets 0-2-29-34-39-44-49-54-59-64 0-2-5-10-15-20-25-30-40-50 0-2-20-30-50-65-75-85-95-105 Additionally, could someone verify what the factory settings are on the higher end radios, Wouxun, Midland, Motorola, etc? Thanks in advance!
  6. Um, I'm very new to CHIRP, and have no idea how to complete this process. Have you tried this, and did it work? If so, I will try to dig deeper and try to figure it out. Thanks for doing the footwork! ? EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out, and IT WORKED! Thank you so much for your help with this, and if you report back to CHIRP, you can report that the fix worked perfectly for me!
  7. That's exactly the one I've been looking at. ?
  8. No problem at all. Yes, it seems to work just fine on my UV-9G, but for some reason it doesn't work on the GMRS-V2. Maybe I just need to use this as a sign to upgrade to a higher end radio or two. Thanks again for your advice, I appreciate you!
  9. As I stated in the original post, it's a BTech GMRS-V2. Thanks again for the suggestion, but my radio still doesn't hold the squelch settings. No matter what I do before uploading the settings to the radio, when I download back from the radio, the squelch settings are back to 0-22-23-24-25-26-27-28-29-30. Anyone else have a suggestion?
  10. Thanks, I'll give this a try today. I hadn't heard that the radio had to be in Frequency mode.
  11. Thanks for the suggestion! I think I did what you're suggesting though, let me make sure. I first downloaded the factory image from the radio, and I set up my local repeaters, then uploaded it back to the radio. Then I learned about the squelch thing, so I downloaded my file from my radio again, made the changes to the squelch, and saved and re-uploaded that file. After that, I downloaded the file from the radio again and it had gone back to the original squelch settings. It holds all of my repeater settings, but for some reason it won't hold the squelch settings. I can download the file, make the changes, and upload it back to the radio over and over. Every time I download the file back from the radio, it's gone back to the old squelch settings.
  12. Hey all- So I read that Baofeng radios need to have the squelch settings adjusted in CHIRP. So, I found an article that told me how to do it, and what to adjust each level to, so I went in and did it per the instructions. I uploaded back to the radio, and out of curiosity, I downloaded back from the radio, and the squelch settings have gone back to where they were originally. I've tried several times to get them to stick, but every time I pull down from the radio into CHIRP, those squelch settings are back at 0-22-23-24-25-26-27-28-29-30. How can I get these settings to stick at 0-2-20-30-50-65-75-85-95-105? Needless to say, I'm fairly new to GMRS, so any advice that any of you pros can provide will be much appreciated!
  13. Some guy **ahem** did a review on this radio recently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jqff37U58o&t=1262s Some of you might find it helpful when making the decision to buy this radio. I bought one a while back, and I'm quite pleased with it. Not top of the line by any means, but a lot of great features for the price.
  14. It sounds like the folks over at Radioddity are very helpful! That's good to know.
