  1. Are you talking mobile to mobile or mobile to repeater? Mobile to mobile is going to vary greatly depending on elevation between the two radios. I can use my handheld to talk 35 miles to a repeater but can't get 3 miles to my mobile due to landscape. My 50W mobile with the MXTA25 Ghost antenna could go 20 miles to repeaters when I was travelling thru flat IN, IL, WI country. I switched to a Laird BB4505CNS and got another 10 miles further thru the same area. Repeaters "generally" have antennas much higher in the air thus the greater distance. I have mounted both mobile antennas on the side of my Jeep hood as well.
  2. Just got mine last week. Yesterday I reached a repeater in the N GA Mountains about 69 miles away. Signal was a little broken up but it made it that far. I normally talk on repeaters 20 or 35 miles away. I was pleasantly surprised to reach that far considering all the trees around me.
  3. First was a pair of Cobra MicroTalk purchased around 2010. Used it for vehicle to vehicle comms during trips. Still have them and they still work great. Last week I purchased a Wouxun KG-935G. BIG upgrade. Complements my KG-1000G in the truck.
  4. Neat isn't it? I was travelling from GA to WI on Sunday and talked to a couple guys in Indy and then another in WI late that night. They were my first contacts as well. It was pretty cool. All very nice. Impressed my radio reached out 24 miles with a little Midland Ghost antenna mounted beside my hood on the Gladiator.
