I emailed Midland to check and see if the 275 could be programmed for wideband and this is the response i got

I'm actually thinking about getting an A pillar light bar for my Gladiator so i can fab up a mount for the ghost antenna on top of it where the lightbar would/ will mount. I would be able to hide the coax under the light bar mount. I have never bren too crazy about a lightbar above the windshield but i would do it to mount my antenna at or above the roofline IF itv would improve the range on my Midland. I would prob run the 28" (or so) Midland nmo antenna when traveling and change to the ghost antenna if in wheeling in an area with a lot of brush. Thoughts on this? Would this be a waste of time? What if i included a 7" or so disk of sheet metal at the base of the nmo mount for a ground plane?...

Super stoked about my Midland MXT275 and how cleanly i installed it in my Gladiator! Ever day i put it on scan mode on my way to work and home. I guess I'm the only one in my area with a GMRS setup. There is one repeater in my area. I sent a request to have access to it hoping that i will be smart enough to use the proper ctcss code to at least hear something, some radio chatter or SOMETHING! I also bought a little Baofeng GM 15 when i bought my Midland. My son and i have talked back and forth some and itvis super fun and will be really handy when camping and wheeling. I just wish there was more going on in my area. Anyone in the same boat? Should i take a short road trip to a nearby repeater and see if i can rx and tx?
