  1. Specific? No. Just need to be able to look at "help" when I'm learning these radios and needing to make some kind of change. I have 2- 8180's and now a 880. I'm just learning about all this radio stuff and "help" get's me along. I have a Vertex 2200, the only way I even got half a clue on it was the help files. Shouldn't have gotten such a complicated radio to start with. But, we're getting there. I will say, the Kenwoods seem so very much easier to work with. Quickly becoming a Kenwood fan!
  2. Thank you Lscott. Took me a while but it did work. I have a Win 10 pc that I rarely use (batt. issues), did all the "mods" on it. Worked out. Might go in and print it all out, or save it to a PDF to use on a "good" pc. Thanks again. Boatiac
  3. Good afternoon everybody. Bought a used TK-880, got the KPG49D software and using the cable for an 8180. Everything is working well. Problem is the Help files in the program. Microsoft and their idiotic ideas did away with the program to open older .HLP files. Does anyone happen to have the help files for the KPG-49D converted to a PDF (or anything Win 10 will use) that they would be willing to share. I've tried a couple programs to convert them, I'm just not computer savey enough to work them. I know I could work through the programming if I just had some sort of a user manual. I don't have access to an XP PC. TIA Boatiac
  4. And there you have it, should have started there. Thank you
  5. I'm just about to give up and DUMP this VX-2200! Motorola guys? or anyone that might know? I have a Vertex VX-2200. Since we went to a DTMF code on a repeater I use, I have been trying to get a Mic w/keypad (MH-75A8J DTMF Palm Mic). I do have it entered into the radio and it works, but I worry about the time I have to manually enter a code and can't. So far, I've called 5 suppliers, all are saying it's discontinued and can't be gotten. None can tell me if there is a replacement. I've had no luck on EBAY either. So, my question is... can I buy any quality mic w/keypad and wire it to work with the VX-2200? TIA
  6. Update. I did get it to work finally. Another user recommended adding another * to the string. That got it. ? Will take another look and re-read the help file. Maybe if I read it enough, a light will start to flicker. Thank you guys again for the help.
  7. "a pause prior to the DTMF being sent would help" Radioguy7268, that is one thing particularly I've wondered about. Would any of those settings create a pause? No, there is no pause, I hit the assigned short cut key, speed dial comes on the screen, hit the PTT and it immediately goes out, yes I hear the tone dial. It is 3 digits. Thank you
  8. Thank you guys. Will keep digging. One thing I'm curious about is what each of those setting are and mean. Maybe if I even knew what they were and their purpose I could figure it out. One thing that was suggested was the timing. That's why I set the DTMF speed to 100msec. It doesn't go any higher. Maybe if someone can point me to site online that does a better job of explaining the settings, I can figure it out. I have the owners manual and the programmers guide, but nothing in those or the "help menu" in the programming software. I guess Motorola just expects all their techs to know these things. ? Again, thank you for your replies! And a very Happy New Year.
  9. Welcome WRVC250. I feel your pain! I used to do CB so long ago. Never really got out of it, but slowed WAY down. Recently (3 months ago) learned about GMRS and more importantly..... Repeaters. Man did the "hook" set in! Where I live we apparently have had some "troublemakers" as well. The repeater owners have not taken things off line, but have added steps to be able to connect in to the repeaters. This caused me serious disappointment. The owners have made it so existing users can access the repeaters and I have learned how to do it, but my lack of technical knowledge (oh and my ability to over complicate things LOL) did not make it easy. DO NOT give up!! WRUJ869
  10. Being such a noob, I'm really wishing I hadn't gotten such a complicated radio. It is what it is now. Owners of the repeater system I use now require a DTMF tone to wakeup the repeaters. The manual for the Motorola VX-2200 says that I can program the tone into it and assign to a key button on the front panel. Then just hit the button, key the mic, and wake the repeater. In the program I've gone to Signalling>DTMF Code> slot 1 and entered the correct code. Saved, exited, then over to Common>Key Function> P2 Long press> set it to Speed Dial. Exit out of programming, load the new settings onto the radio. Go to P2, long press, "SPD Dial" appears, key the mic, hear it transmit, but nothing happens. All the CTCSS/DSC codes are done right. Nothing there has changed. If someone else wakes the repeaters, I can talk, no problems with access. I just can't wake it up with my radio. I feel like there is a step I'm missing. A setting I need to change, maybe? I go into Signalling> DTMF and there are a few different settings in there but I have no clue what they do or if I should even mess with them. One setting I did change was Signalling>DTMF>DTMF Speed from 50msec to 100msec. It was suggested that maybe the tone was being transmitted too fast? In my tiny little brain that doesn't make sense, seems to me going from 50 to 100 is faster. The suggestion was to put it on 150. That option isn't available, only 50msec or 100 msec. The mic I'm using is a standard mic, no keypad. It was suggested just to get a mic with the keypad. Could be what I'll do. But, my brain keeps saying "NO" the radio is "supposed" to be able to do this code. I've attached an image of the program settings available in Signalling>DTMF and what settings currently are. Should something be changed? As always, thank you for any help. Maybe one day I'll know enough to give help instead of always asking. WRUJ869
  11. Just learned it is apparently normal for the repeater.
  12. "Programming in hangtime". Uh oh, this sounds complicated!? Guessing that's not for people with occasional ID10T issues? (OK, I'll admit, more often than occasional) "what the repeater is", if you mean brand, no idea. Thanks for the replies.
  13. Good morning Being new to all this, I don't know what to do about it. I'll try to explain the best I can. Running a VX-2200 as a base. The moment I let off the PTT I hear the very tail of my last word. All my radio setting are original, I have not changed anything yet. I checked my modulation level, it is set to "standard". I did lower it to -3, didn't change, so I set it back to "standard". I have no clue what to look at next. Radio checks tell me I am coming in "full quiet and clear". Another thing I've noticed is that it is only doing it when I'm on a repeater channel. Also, it only does it on the VX-2200. I have 2 BTech mobiles and a Midland MXT500, it does not do it on them. Is there some kind of setting I can do to stop this? Thanks
  14. Hah, your right. I just saw that. Duh! Thank you
