Language, Identification, and Use

I just recently got my callsign for GMRS! Yay! Plus I'm working towards getting my ham. Please forgive me since I'm so new here. What can or can't I say? We all have different cultures or things we like to say that isn't offensive but are to others. Where is the line?

§95.333   Prohibited uses.

No person shall use a Personal Radio Service station:

 (e) To transmit obscene, profane or indecent words, language or meaning; or

The word gay used to mean happy and some old folks still use it, rarely though. What about "dank" that means cool? What about the phrase 420 just to be funny? Indecent language or meaning is pretty broad and vague. Heaven forbid we talk about religion/politics over the radio! XD What if I'm hiking and my brother says, "check out my sick moves!" Today's American culture is pretty tolerant and most don't take offense. It's even part of our normal language. I'm not asking about really bad words like -----. That's obvious.

Another issue is identification. I guess my question would be answered by an example. How do you talk to other GMRS users? Do I have to use my callsign everytime I end my conversation? What about if I'm talking to a family member hiking or biking? How do I start a conversation and end it? What if we talk at random times spaced out?

§95.1751   GMRS station identification.

Each GMRS station must be identified by transmission of its FCC-assigned call sign at the end of transmissions and at periodic intervals during transmissions except as provided in paragraph © of this section. A unit number may be included after the call sign in the identification.

(a) The GMRS station call sign must be transmitted:

(1) Following a single transmission or a series of transmissions; and,

(2) After 15 minutes and at least once every 15 minutes thereafter during a series of transmissions lasting more than 15 minutes.

It seems like GMRS is like FRS but more "proper". Can't I use it like FRS? What if I want to use the extended range (More watts in GMRS) for hiking, biking, camping, snowmobiling, or for any other recreational use?

Family Radio Service (FRS). A short-distance two-way voice communication service, with limited data applications, between low power hand-held radios, for facilitating individual, family, group, recreational and business activities.

General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS). A mobile two-way voice communication service, with limited data applications, for facilitating activities of individual licensees and their family members, including, but not limited to, voluntary provision of assistance to the public during emergencies and natural disasters.

Thanks, guys! Peace out!

In urban, congested areas I monitor frequency a bit to see if I'm not stomping on somebody, then identify, than go chat, keeping it short and to the point. When done, identify again and say "frequency clear" just as a courtesy to others.

In the woods I (or my family) identify then go blabber away till the the batteries drained, identifying when remember. I have yet to stumble on other GMRS user in Sierra foothills in close proximity. When talking to family the one who starts the talk speaks the callsign, and the one who is finishing the talk identifies too.

Regarding specific words and meanings, the rule I go by in face-to-face, email, online forums and radio communications is: do not be an --- to others, and there is a better chance others will do the same to you.

We do not use a good bit of what is classified as "tolerate" language on the forum. We consider this a family oriented forum whether you apply the type of language you call tolerate on the air is between yourself and the FCC.We do not appreciate that type of language here...William
