Android App Beta Users

First, a little news. I know that the main site is very unfriendly for mobile users, due to how old the base code is. It's not easy to update without potentially breaking some stuff, so in the meantime I've been working on a mobile app which will work for Android and iOS. Right now we're focusing on the Android version first, then we'll release the identical iOS version.

We need some members who would be interested in beta testing the app and providing some feedback.

If you have any problems with the app, please post a reply with your device make and model (i.e. Samsung Galaxy S10e) and your current Android version (found in Settings > About Phone).

The feature set is quite small right now, since I wanted to get something out as early as possible, but I will be adding a lot of features in the coming weeks. I think it's already usable for the common cases like looking up nearby repeaters and using the map to locate systems around the country.

If you're willing to be a beta tester, please click the link below and join the beta testing program. You'll be able to install the current beta version and will automatically receive updates as new builds are created, which should be fairly often. Once we have a stable app, I'll release it to Production for everyone else to download.

Verified multi app mode works fine on a Samsung Acrive 7 with Android 8.0.0

-"TOGGLE DARK MODE" is not persistent if you minimize the app and re-open it.

-- Isn't persistent if you close the app and re-opening the app.

- Repeater Search list sometimes is empty till I click on the search field.

All in all pretty awesome app especially for a Version 1.0.4

Thanks, you're right that dark mode doesn't persist. If the app is closed by Android, it'll revert back. I need to make it persist and maybe even follow the system-wide dark mode setting.

The repeater search is waiting for GPS to show nearby repeaters, but there isn't a loading indicator to show it's doing something. So by the time you give up and tap on it, that's right around the time the GPS location comes back and the list can be populated. It seems like your tap did something, but it's really just the geolocation delay. I'll add a loading indicator to show what's going on to make it clear.

I think once I make a few small fixes we can release something to production. No reason to keep it in beta if it seems like it's working for everyone. Hopefully a few more people can chime in with how it's working.

Having worked QA/Support for over 15 years. I agree with your statement that it is about ready for prime time.. It is well put together and for some real minor enhancements it is about perfect. I always considered anything  v1 of all software to be pre-alpha tested. Basically, the developer verified key things and that is it. Your app is still probably one of the best as far exiting design and implementation phase.

One other thing. Maybe the "about" should be on the login screen. Since it has information most people who have a log-in would already know about. Maybe even a mention about needing a forum login to access the app. If it is destined for the app store, bunch of people are going to try to download it as a bypass to the information on repeaters that requires a forum login. That is till they open the app.

Now I need you to make an app that can do ":turn by turn" navigation app with an APRS overlay. Wishes would be smsgate functionality, bluetooth support, integrating Repeaterbook or rfinder and easy way to setup an Igate with it, It must be to the quality of the MYGMRS app from the jump. You can do it!  :D

Nobody complained about this yet, but older Android versions (before 8.0) do not support Adaptive Icons and therefore the app icon was small with a transparent background rather than the navy blue. The fallback icon wasn't working on these older devices, so I'm rolling out 1.0.7 to fix that.

Seems there's no access to the forum from the Android myGMRS App.

Nearby Repeater List

Map

Callsign Lookup

User Lookup

Correct?

Don't know if that's the intent, but it mirrors my experience as well.

That said, given there seems to be a little disconnect between the forum and the page on the actual site (I have the same username, but different passwords), it doesn't entirely surprise me if the forum isn't accessible via the app.

Not a big deal, I can still hit the Forums via browser with cell coverage.

The app is missing repeaters listed on the website, at least for my area (Portland, OR).

It didn't find the missing repeater if I typed in the repeater name in the search box, either.

Yup. There's a selection for "offline repeaters" but none for "outdated "repeaters", which is where those local to me show up on the standard website map.

In the app, on the repeater map, it has a toggle for showing offline repeaters, but not "outdated listings." I'm not sure what the criteria for a listing being outdated is, but I have to toggle it on the website every time as 70% of the current and working repeaters around me are listed as outdated. No option to see these in the app though.
