Is there anyone else out in this same area?

I managed to find another repeater on this frequency with a different DPL tone. Once i managed to figure it all out and key up to say hi, I was very disappointed in the response...

Not sure what I expected but I guess after I mentioned I was new and they were the first* people I had actually gotten a hold of, I kind of expected (or hoped) for a friendlier response than "Well this is so-and-so's and so-and-so's repeater, so I'd just put the mic down."

I mean, I get it if its their personal repeater, but it was a very disappointing first experience. Especially after the effort of scanning for their DPL code (I had never done it before). Could've at least asked me who and where I was. Or trade callsigns with me... :(

*Just wanted to clarify I've found other repeaters, but this was the first time I had found someone on a frequency I could legally reply back to (i.e. GMRS)..

Well don't get off on the wrong foot.  People are like that on everything even HAM and now GMRS.  So there is a new repeater near I-10 and 610 on the West side.  It is on 462.675 tone 141.3 and open to you and any other licensed user.   I try to monitor it when I am at work near that side of town.  Feel free to use it at will!

Erus,

Welcome to the forum. There is no official site to find GMRS repeaters, it is strictly voluntarily. We strive to get members to post their repeater on the repeater list here but not everyone does this. You will find other repeaters by doing your own search as you have already, some repeater owners wish to remain private and you do have some unlicensed people installing repeaters. Welcome and enjoy GMRS, you will find it a good asset when you need it and do not let others discourage you. Pastor Gary is right on asking permission by mail/email before attempting to use anyone's repeater as it does tend to make some feel as they are being violated/intruded upon, have fun!!!...................William

The email thing is a pretty good idea for GMRS. GMRS is different than the norm for the amature radio bands in terms of repeater use.

I got permission for the repeater in Seattle. I can key it up from a hilltop in my location. In the time that I have been licensed, I have not spoken to another licensed user outside of my own family until I keyed up the Seattle repeater. I had a brief conversation with one of the users.

The repeater owners have the Seattle downtown covered for ecomm, but there is very little use of the system other than an occasional radio net.
