Blaise Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 Hey folks, So I'm trying to get a local group together to discuss GMRS possibilities in my area. I'd like to make connections with GMRS operators in the Hudson to Champlain area of New York State. Anyone out there? It's a bit quiet on the airwaves! Quote

Wesgo66 Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 Hi, I'm a ways south of you, kind of the same thing in the Mid Hudson Area. I'm totally new to the GMRS radio thing, but I thought there would be a lot more people on the air. Anyways beautiful part of the state up there, I grew up outside of Albany, but have been going to the Adirondacks since I was a little kid. Quote
EXPFDR Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 Hello, Near Hudson here, Very new to GRMS too, trying to learn also. I have the Wouxoun 905G but unfortunately I don't hear any transmission on the radio when I drive around. I need to get back up in the ADKs for a visit. Haven't been there in years. Quote
Blaise Posted February 24, 2022 Author Report Posted February 24, 2022 Hi guys! So just for the moment, to start discussions, I set up a Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/uhgmrs I'm beginning to think we need to cast a wider net to collect enough people to make a community, so don't get hung up on the "upper" bit! jt.fred Posted March 4, 2022 Report Posted March 4, 2022 I'm in the capital district area and its pretty quiet out here too even though I do try to call out Quote
Blaise Posted March 11, 2022 Author Report Posted March 11, 2022 What do you monitor? Do you hit any of the local repeaters? Quote

I hit a couple of the repeaters in my local area when I have my radio up, but mainly general monitoring of the channels in the capital district area, nothing serious around me maybe a radio check, when I do call out I never received a response. Only time I have was down south, and we communicated for roughly 30-40 minute time range. Was hoping to find someone to talk with like they do on ham until I get a ham license. Quote
gortex2 Posted May 20, 2022 Report Posted May 20, 2022 GMRS and HAM are two different things. Many folks do not get on GMRS to talk. Your better off on amatuer radio if thats what your looking for. Quote

Well you're in about the same boat I am. As I said above, I'm not too interested in general in ham-style rag-chewing, but I'm trying to start a local emergency-preparedness group, so I need more experience/familiarity with both simplex and repeater comms before I feel comfortable teaching/recruiting others. I'd be happy to make your acquaintance in radio-space! I keep an eye on a couple of the Seacom repeaters and scan simplex in general, so I'm out here. Come find me! Quote
