I know very well what the difference is. My point was we are bickering over stuff that 99% of the GMRS users don't care about nor have a license to care. "Licensed" users will follow the rules but there is a HUGE amount of folks on these channels with no license, no care about a license or about anything we are talking about.

"BaoFeng Pofung BF-T11 walkie talkies has license-free FRS storage channels. You can also set up to 22 channels through the frequency writing software, and the custom channel is high-power or low-power, suitable for the needs of different scenarios, the working and standby time of the two way radios will be longer." Amazon

Two for $27: put them right next to your GMRS HTs and then, problem solved, so what's the debate about?!?

We know how 11 meter CB turned into a wasteland. People just didn’t care either and did whatever they felt like. It’s sad to see that attitude spreading through GMRS.

The Myth of Radio Spectrum Interference

<<Just came across a fascinating article on Salon about a technologist who claims that there is no such thing as "interference" in the radio spectrum. He argues that interference is a symptom of inadequate equipment, not a fact of nature, and that with improved transceivers we could open the spectrum up to high-quality broadcasts by anyone. Reference is made to the GNU Radio Project. Neat stuff."

Want fewer car accidents? Remove traffic signals and road signs

<<
“When you treat people like idiots, they’ll behave like idiots.”

That was the philosophy of Hans Monderman, the Dutch traffic engineer who became famous not for what he added to road design and urban planning, but for what he removed: curbs, traffic signals, signs. He believed drivers become more alert and cautious when there’s more uncertainty on the road.

I actually understand what Prof. David P. Reed says. But David Weinberger, the journalist, does not. And people (simpletons on slashdot) who are retelling the story, attempting to simplify it even more, do not understand even David Weinberger. Poor souls, when they grow up and get out of their mother's basement, life is going to be tough for them.

And the second link can be summarized by: design the road in the way to eliminate signs. Doh! His first husband must've been Captain Obvious.

I’m a firm believer that placing the driver’s seat on the front bumper would result in more careful driving and less tailgating. ?
