MichaelLAX Posted September 20, 2022 Report Share Posted September 20, 2022 WELCOME to this Forum: While I am not in New Jersey, until a local chimes in: Many times Tones are not used for simplex, especially if a wider approach to communications is desired. A Tone (whether CTCSS or DCS (a/k/a DTC) on the receive end will work to keep your radio quiet (squelch on) until it receives someone transmitting with that Tone. A Tone on the transmit end, can be received by anyone listening to Channel 20 in range if they have not set a Tone on their receive end; even though some manufacturers call them "Privacy Tones." Using a prearranged Tone on both transmit and receive with another radio in range, will, for the most part, work to keep your radios silent until such time as one of you (or someone else in range using the same Tone) transmits Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
