Greetings! WSAZ797  Al here.

I am starting my research on building a base station. I was wondering if any of you folks know the height of the Roadkill repeater? I'm about 27 miles away and my first step is going to be antenna build. I know line of site is important so, I'd like to build just what I need to extend over the tops of foliage.

Thank you for reading.

Can someone please tell me in CHIRP how the entry for this repeater is supposed to look? I can Rx fine on it but I cannot Tx on it with my Baofeng UV-17 Plus or any other handheld I own. My tones are set to 114.2 in CHIRP.

New,  New Orleans area GMRS guy, in Kenner. Was wondering the same. Also, any opinions on the Midland GXT3000?

Many much better gmrs radios for the same money.   If all you need is a walkie talkie they will do fine but if need repeater function, especially multiple repeaters, and antenna options then I’d say grab something else.

The GXT3000 is more for adventurers that want to stay in touch with their group - It is not a "radio dork" radio. Very similar to the bubble-wrap type radios you get at Walmart - just a more expensive GMRS version.

This is good to know. I’ve also looked at these but couldn’t help but feel like they were longer range walkie talkies.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to have to go with a multipack that is easy to use, FCC compliant, etc. I should be in range of a nearby elevated repeater.

Our area has frequent power outages in addition to being in a hurricane risk area, so these are for family sharing, etc. It baffles me as the  to why the overlords require GMRS radios to have fixed antennas.
