Got the link to this in my inbox today, and I have to say if it performs as well as the UV-82, this little GMRS radio could really get more people interested in GMRS.

It is a GMRS only radio, and has the ability to change CTCSS tones on the fly.  I'll probably get one next week to see if when changing the tones if they say during a power cycle, but we'll see.

HAPPY GMRS!

One "Good Thing" is that they finally have an entire paragraph informing that a GMRS license is required...

...not that there's much chance folks will actually read that far to the very bottom of the page, or even pay any attention to this information.

Looks like the radio is Part 95 A certified !

Removable antenna

Wonder how is transmits and receives.

How audible is the speaker?

Hopefully this is a good news radio for the price

Yes, we know its not commercial grade.

My UV-82 is great but with programmed GMRS channels I'm unable to change tones on those channels once programmed, I wonder if in this radio or firmware you can do this. I can only do it right now on VFO mode, but I also need to carry a frequency / gmrs channel chart lol.

I'm pretty sure this is a UV82 with different firmware, we need that firmware lol

The radio comes pre-programmed with all GMRS repeater pairs. CTCSS/DCS tones are FPP (front panel programmable) and are remembered when turning off the radio and then turning on again.

One other neat feature is that you can "scan for tones" and quickly identify what tone is being used, then simply program that channel to use the detected tone.

  • 4 months later...

I have had this radio for about a month and have been able to listen in on some great discussions on my local repeater. Problem is my local repeater requires a DPL 263 but I have not been able to figure out how to set that up. Is it supported on the ht?

I checked and it is able to be programed to use DPL 263. in your DCS table select number 47 on your TX channel.

I found this in appendix C of the manual along wiht instructions on how to program it.

I think you are talking about my repeater in IL, if so feel free to jump on. No permission required I have it listed public and encourage its use.

I wrote this up a while back  https://forums.mygmrs.com/topic/592-rebuilding-the-chain-o-lakes-repeater-ingleside-il/
