WSDE767 Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 I am new to gmrs radios and I have a question that may already have been answered. I have a repeater that I have its approval to use. Repeater 2 and the frequency is 462.575 and the input tone is 141.3 output tone 141.3. My question is do I need an offset ?. How do I know I him connected to the repeater? My gmrs radio is an radioddity GM-30 Quote
OffRoaderX Posted June 18 Report Posted June 18 I am going on the assumption that you mean GM-30, and because the GM-30 is a "GMRS" radio, you don't need to worry about the offset. You just find the correct repeater channel based on the frequency (probably CH25?), then add the transmit tone - don't worry about the receive tone for now because that is just more things to do wrong and confuckulate yourself with. You know if you are connected by pressing the push to talk button and calling out and asking if anyone can hear you. If someone answers "YES", or, if after you let go of the PTT button you hear a short blip of static (known as the tail or 'kerchunk') then you did it right. JoCoBrian 1 Quote
WSDE767 Posted June 18 Author Report Posted June 18 I did a radio check a couple of times. No reply. I guess I need to be patient and keep trying. Quote

Keep in mind that it's GMRS, and no one cares about anyone else. You may have been heard reaching out, but it's a "bring your own friends" service. JoCoBrian and amaff 1 1 Quote

Keep in mind that it's GMRS, which a lot of people don't treat as an activity in and of itself, and often aren't just sitting on the radio all day waiting to talk to someone. In the Salt Lake valley, we have a handful of repeaters that are pretty much constantly monitored and often busy. And several that you won't get an answer on. This might be the latter. Quote
JoCoBrian Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 Repeaters on 462.575 on my GM30 is Channel 24. Offset is already there at 5 Mhz. Use the CPS and add a name for the repeater and input your TX tones. Like Randy said...don't confuckulate things with the RX tones. I've had my GM-30's for about 18 months, really like them. We added the RD-332 antenna to ours and it did make a difference in simplex range...1.75 miles to about 2.25 miles. Quote
