10 Year License

Thank you, G. :) Me still being unemployed, that would hit me kind of hard if FCC decides to increase the fees, though. I kind of depend on GMRS a bit more than amateur because although radio communication is useful in my family, I'm the only one that handles everything. My family has no interest in the exams and FRS is just not enough sometimes.

I am in the same boat you are. I have family members who are ok with buying a radio, but would not want to pay for a licence or study for a ham licence.  I got a licence for the family so they can use their GMRS radios without worrying what freq. or output power they are using.  Now I have to figure out how the new rules will affect me in 5 years.  It sounds like in 5 years my licence will no longer cover them and they will be expected to get individual GMRS licenses. That will not fly well when the time comes.

Pau1 - Please refer to the NEW Rules, Part 95.1705 (sub c2)  for the list of family members covered under your license.

Recap: "(2) Any individual who holds an individual license may allow his or her immediate family members to operate his or her GMRS station or stations. Immediate family members are the licensee's spouse, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, parents, grandparents, stepparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws."

Going to use GMRS this year for our comms on our winter trip in the southwest. A few things left to do, and we are on our way. Just got my USA GMRS licence, all done online using the well-designed FCC websites, $70 for ten years, callsign issued in less than two working days. Good service! Glad to finally be able to join myGMRS.com  -  Arizona, here we come!

I love the 10 years licence as it makes things easier, take me for example, Licence issued On Oct 31st 2017, like our driving licenses renewal, its an easy thing to remember.  My renewal is on Halloween I won't be forgetting it :-)

Just remember if you move away you must update your details on the FCC database.

All the very best..Shane

I just checked on a family member's fresh new license APPLICATION for GMRS and it still has a restriction; "Applicant/Licensee certifies that he or she will comply with the requirement that use of frequencies 462.650, 467.650,

462.700 and 467.700 MHz is not permitted near the Canadian border North of Line A and East of Line C. These frequencies are used throughout Canada and harmful interference is anticipated."
