Guest callsign_tbd Posted June 18, 2017 Report Posted June 18, 2017 nice and informative forum folks. I still don't have my license application approved by FCC (applied only yesterday) but came to know my wife has ordered a btech gmrs v1 radio for me to get started. Anyone with any experience or use this particular radio? Note I have no prior radio experience and looking to learn more about radio transmissions as a hobby. Thank you https://baofengtech.com/gmrs-v1 Dimitry from New Jersey Quote
Logan5 Posted June 18, 2017 Report Posted June 18, 2017 Baofeng/Pofung makes good solid radios, this particular radio is designed to be GMRS Part 95 certified and I believe is a very wise choice for a beginner. WQWI871 1 Quote

I am mildly aware that part95 cert radios are not very common on gmrs but why exactly is that the case? I am to the hobby and have a ton of newbie questions. Thanks Quote
Logan5 Posted June 18, 2017 Report Posted June 18, 2017 Manufactures, have been slow to adopt and I am sure most question the financial benefit of such investment. I am glad pofung/baofeng did. Quote
SteveH Posted June 19, 2017 Report Posted June 19, 2017 I got one a couple of weeks ago and am quite happy with it. Quote
Guest Guest Posted June 20, 2017 Report Posted June 20, 2017 I received the radio is evening. Seems like a solid built unit. I've only listened to NOAA and some FM transmissions as I'm still waiting for my call sign. Radio seems a bit overwhelming for a true beginner Quote
Guest alex1 Posted June 21, 2017 Report Posted June 21, 2017 I recommend getting high quality antenna for it too. I was testing my GMRS v1 out, and it wasn't getting a signal from my repeater. I put on the antenna from my TERA TR 505, and it worked so much better, even though the antennas are the same height! Quote
stonecrest Posted June 23, 2017 Report Posted June 23, 2017 Reason some Baofeng radio antennas are defective and a fix video. https://youtu.be/MtnDvWGTKpk Quote
