CLAARC GMRS

Overview

About This Club

Use of the repeater is free but a free club membership is required. The antenna sits on a Commercial Tower at approximately 190 feet and CommScope DB408-B. The effective coverage is about 40 miles. This repeater belongs to CLAARC (Clifton Linden Area Amateur Radio Club) and was established as a community repeater to facilitate basic communications needs for everyday use and is open for public safety use should the need arise. In giving community members access to this system we hope that it can also function as a stepping stone that leads to a long and happy Amateur Radio Hobby. Thanks Frank N6AQ / WqWr627

  1. What's new in this club
  2. Getting the repeater to work with the controller. Thanks to Will Nunley we will be working on getting the antenna in place soon. One thing I would like to do is have a repeater check in every Thursday evening at about 1900hrs once its in place. Let me know what you think.
  3. The first task for any repeater setup is location, location, location. Due to the generous support of a local broadcaster a location has been determined. The location and elevation of the tower has been calculated to provide a 40 mile+ coverage area that is anticipated to cover from Hohenwald to Jackson Tennessee and south to the Alabama state line. There is still a lot of work to do, and if you want to assist financially that would be great but not necessary. This project may get completed much earlier than the anticipated 7 months and I am hoping to get the repeater on the air rather quickly. There is an annual invoice due for electricity and other incidentals to run this repeater at a commercial site. if you find this repeater useful even $5 a month would help offset this expense. Some of the features that will be available to users of the repeater are: Another avenue for emergency communication. Everyday communication use. Alert Notices. Weather and time announcements. (Pending) The benefits of having a GMRS repeater available to the community are immense and range from Emergencies to hunting and sporting applications. The use of a GMRS license is somewhat lose compared to other licenses and one license can be used for your family allowing your spouse to communicate without needing their own license. Follow us, join us and signup to participate in our CLAARC GMRS Club. Membership is free but is required for repeater use.
