  6. ok many people have heard about the Orlando hamfest called HAMCATION. it is considered the second largest hamfest in the US. there will be new equipment and venders selling new gear, radios, wire, cables, antennas, and just about anything radio related. There is a large area inside and outside for people selling used gear also. this is a huge event. you will find CB radios, GMRS radios, comercial radios, ham radios, shortwave recievers, and there are a lot of gmrs operators that will be there. most of us who have been there many times will wear a ID badge with thier CALLs (ham and GMRS) so people will identify them. Also a Hat with your Callsign or a Shirt with your call are favorites and allow others to spot you and say hello. look at the bottom of this email for some links to get an idea of places to get stuff with your call sign. there is also forums about diferent topics. i am suggesting a meeting Friday and Saturday at 1pm to just socialize with other GMRS operators, 1st suggested location between 3rd building (SWAPS) and the 2nd building (north) https://www.hamcation.com/ http://www.hamstuff.com/Badges_html/Badges.html https://www.hamcrazy.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=14_5 https://thesignman.com/ https://hamcall.net/badges https://callsignbadges.com/ this next one is cool, shaped like a microphone https://www.etsy.com/listing/1616403398/ham-radio-badge-id-microphone-shape-gift?ls=s&sts=1&content_source=16ba70de-1c8e-4b57-8978-cd65a0ee4dda%253ALTfcbc83ba56f6085b818ffee44796ed07f561a7cb https://www.etsy.com/listing/36494245/ham-radio-call-sign-badges-amateur-radio?ls=s&sts=1&content_source=16ba70de-1c8e-4b57-8978-cd65a0ee4dda%253ALT0148fc209ed0655233037016d898c796a487d31b https://www.etsy.com/listing/1667502162/gmrs-radio-card-id-gift-for-gmrs these are always good. there are others that are plastic and some even aluminum look around before buying https://www.hamcrazy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=420

  11. Also if there is a conversation going on and you want to join in the conversation. then wait till there is a short break in transmissions and key up say your call, this will let them know you want to join the conversation. example. wait for a pause.... key up and say "ABCD123"(use your call here)un key and make sure you did not key up at the same time as another station. give them a few minutes to finish a thought and when they are ready they will acknowledge you and ask if you want to join the conversation. Hopefully these tips will help you understand how to operate in a manner that will get you communicating in your hobby. if you have questions please ask.
