  1. Thanks for the replies, I appreciate the feedback.
  2. I’m looking to get a meter of some sorts to check antenna SWR and tune. I was searching and came across the NanoVNA and the price seems good. Is it more than I need? I just want to tune antennas is all. Would I be better off with the SWR/Power meter instead? Thanks in advance.
  3. This right here. The transmitting radio is making the other radio def. Get some space between them and you should be fine.
  4. I just picked up a single band tuned to 465.000 and so far its performance has been good. I don’t have a SWR measuring device yet, but it outperforms my UT-72.
  5. Is it the dual band antenna or single band? What is it tuned for?
  6. I’d run it for now until they can respond to your email if this is the case.
  7. What is the antenna tuned for?
  8. One thing I’ve done, once you get a repeater working from programming it on the radio, read it with chirp and see what it looks like on the channel line on the software. Then I use similar settings when setting up the next repeater through chirp.
  9. That’s odd, I thought it wasn’t even issued until you made payment. How long had you had your license/call sign before you received this notice?
  10. we shall see, its near my house and I work 40 miles away in an office so my monitoring time is limited.
  11. If I had a repeater similar to yours, I'm not sure I would be able to stay off of it much. Or does it get old after a while when the "new" wears off?
  12. Kinda what I was getting at here.
  13. I don’t think so, I have the uv9g pro and I don’t recall seeing it listed either.
  14. You can scan all channels by going into the menu and changing the scan group to all. and it can scan 2 separate groups at a time, one on top row, one on bottom row. further, in the software, you can set custom scan groups to select from.
  15. That’s an option. I was planning on monitoring a little more and trying to catch the owner to chat.
  16. I have translated the id Morse code and looked up the owner, but I didn’t want to look like a creeper hitting him up out of nowhere (and I wouldn’t know how to do that without knocking on his door) That’s how I know it’s only a couple miles from me (I can see the antenna mast on google maps).
  17. Thanks for the confirmation, this is what I was hoping to hear from others. Just didn’t want to piss anyone off, especially this close to home.
  18. I found a repeater that is really close to me (just a couple miles) but it isn’t listed anywhere I can find. I found the tone (uses the travel tone) and hear traffic on it often. Would I be out of line to start using it? I would ask permission but don’t know how to contact the owner. What is the proper protocol here? I would love to use this one since it’s so close and it covers a decent area around my part of town.
  19. Depending on elevation, 45 miles is very achievable. I talk on a repeater that’s 30-40 miles away with a hand held, the repeater is about 7k feet higher than I am (it’s way up in the mountains with a good line of site).
  20. No, you don’t have to have a tone set for RX, you should still hear the entire frequency. The tone acts as a filter and without it it’s wide open.
  21. I don’t own the 935 but I do have the GMRS PRO, and so far I like it, though I don’t have another radio to compare it to. Programming was easy one I worked through the app. Sounds good, and battery life seems to be good even with the GPS on all day. I did order a KG UV9G pro that should be here tomorrow, then I can see how much I really like the GMRS PRO.
  22. You need to go into the channel and make sure you have the scan check box checked. Then when you scan it will only scan the channel’s you have check marked.
  23. Are you talking simplex or through a repeater?
  24. I’m new to GMRS also lured in by NotaRubicon. I have been working on a few repeaters in my area and have been very impressed with how far out these radios can reach. Last night I joined in a net on a repeater that covers this area, it’s almost 50 miles from me at over 7k feet giving it a huge coverage area.
