  1. Does that include mobile radios or just portables ? I'm trying to get someone set up with GMRS mobile radios that they can mount in their vehicles and change PL tones at will when they travel through different areas, utilizing the many open repeaters around the country as they travel. I understand that there's are only 8 GMRS repeater pairs, all with a 5mhz plus offset (462**** RX / 467**** TX). I want them to be able to change the PL tone for any of those pairs as needed from the front panel. So you are saying that all of the current GMRS mobile radios are front panel programmable for PL tones? If that is so, then I can direct them to something that they prefer price wise. Thanks for your replies.
  2. Are any or all the newer dedicated GMRS mobile radios computer programed only or do some or any of them have the capability to change PL tones from the front panel?
  3. Thats because they are a true 50 ohm connector and have the ability to be attached without multiple turns of a test probe lead or other cable. They are ok for stationary type, semi permanent useage but even then can be sketchy. BNC use on a portable radio is a poor choice as every wobble and flexing of the antenna contributes to it's loosening by physically stretching the outside securing ring. They are also virtually impossible to waterproof and have poor physical strength overall compared to the newer types of connectors used on most every portable these days.
  4. The itinerant freqs are 35.02 (restricted to 2w and itinerant use only) and 35.04 ( itinerant use only) in that range.
  5. Been watching the updates for the past many months and there seems to be a lot of new GMRS repeaters going on the air in Puerto Rico. Can any members here explain this uptick in activity? Is it due to past storm damages and people wanting to maintain some form of commo there? Just curious, Thanks!
