  1. Yeah.... I'm about to the point of just dropping the whole issue. I bought the UV-9G based on it having water and dust resistance, moreso that any of the other GMRS radios I have. It still carries with it that resistance, even without Ch. 15. WRYS709 seems to have some ideas that may work, that we're working on DM. But barring that working, I'm just not going to keep worrying about it. If I really REALLY need to xmit on 462.550, I have cheaper radios thta it won't kill me if they get wet.
  2. OK, I will look into that next. Thank you!
  3. OK, I fired up the old Windows machine, and could not get the download to work. I suspect it is becausethat machine was running Windows 7. Yeah, it is pretty old. So, I'm looking into the app store for my MacBook. @WRYS709, you mentioned Parallels. Is that the one you would recommend for putting on the Mac to get this straightened out? Nevermind. It looks like I'm dead in the water. My MacBook is too old, is not compatible with Parallels. So I guess I'm stuck without Ch. 15 on my UV-9G.
  4. That may be what i am reduced to, if I can't get the old laptop fired up.
  5. I only have two PC's. One is my work computer (not going to put this software on that). The other is an old laptop that I have hanging around. Otherwise, I'm soly using Apple, and I think this software is only compatible with PC's.
  6. I guess this is pretty old at this point; however, I wanted to point out that, for a while there (maybe still?) the primary seller of Baofeng UV-5R radios (including the UV-5R GMRS), and actually the only one I could find on AMAZON, was ABBREE. So, I ended up sending two UV-5R GMRS radios back to Amazon, both of which had been sold by ABBREE. Then I ordered the UV-9G from Amazon, supplied by Radioddity, as I recall. It has the same 462.550 dead TX as the UV-5R GMRS did. However, I decided to keep it, as it is weather resistant, and if I REALLY have to play on GMRS Ch 15, I can do it on one of the other radios I (now) have. If I can find/dig out an old PC and download the firmware zip from this thread, I'll try fixing it with that.
  7. So, if the radio you're having this trouble with is from ABBREE, it seems to be (based on my experience, and this post) common across the board for their GMRS radios, right now. I tried two UV-5Rs from them with this problem (sent both back), and now this GMRS-9R shows the same problem. It seems to just be between 462.550 and 462.560 (which isn't a GMRS frequency, but is where the UV-5R started transmitting again).
  8. I purchased one of the UV-5R GMRS radios from Amazon. It was from the Amazon store that came up when clicking on notarubicon's affiliate link. It would not transmit on Ch 15, nor 462.550 programmed into one of the higher channels (while trying to transmit in channel mode). They won't transmit in frequency mode, at least according to notarubicon, and that seemed to be the case with that first radio. It WOULD transmit on both Ch 15 or a higher channel if I programmed the channel to any frequency 462.560 or higher. All programming on it was done on the face of the radio. I ended up sending it back for exchange. Second one was the exact same way. In the meantime, I had ordered a programming cord, and downloaded CHIRP. I attached the radio to the computer (a MacBook, but I was using the compatible CHIRP, so I think it should have worked?). I could not get CHIRP to talk to the radio. Tried numerous times, no joy. So, I sent that second radio back to Amazon as well, for a full refund. I've given up on the UV-5R GMRS, as it seems that everywhere it is available lately, it is disabled for Tx below 462.560. And yes, I know that 462.560 isn't a GMRS frequency. But it would Tx on that frequency, when programmed into any channel, and operated in channel mode.
