  1. Ok, so here's how I set up those channels at the bottom of the channel list. Also, I have the DPS channels set to "off" in Duplex but for some reason I can still transmit on them. I don't want to transmit on those channels at all so for the mean time I have them set to "low" power but I'd really like to stop transmission totally, any ideas? Another thing, I did install the Yaesu software under WINE but it gives an error and forces shutdown of the program so it's not stable for me at all. CHIRP Next, on the other hand IS stable but I don't think it has as many things as the Yaesu software. Still waiting for some answers here.
  2. Got the Yaesu FT-65r in this evening and also a cable I can use to program it with. I unlocked it with the "special code number" and programed it with my GMRS/MURS/DPS channels BUT at the bottom of the channel memory list there were some channels in Red that could not be deleted. I added in channels in there place that I might actually use like GMRS 1 and 7 for the UHF channels, MURS Blue Dot and Green Dot for the VHF channels and my local radio station(100.7 FM) for the FM channels. After that the Red went away but I still can't delete them. So, why are they there and why can't I delete them? I also noticed that I can program special channels into the "P" buttons so that if I press one it'll go directly to that channel but I still need to read up on the other functions I can use the "P" buttons for. There were quite a few of them and there were "sub" functions as well. Here's a pic of what the channels looked like before I added my own to replace them. Seems like a quality built radio, I think it's going to be a decent addition to my small collection. P.S. I also found the second pic in the manual which might explain things a bit but it's still not 100% clear.
  3. When I went to DeVry to get my Electronics Technician's Degree (all those years ago) we'd tie knots in wires to slow the flow of electrons.
  4. Thanks for the heads up on the programming cable. I ordered this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07TKMKDZ6?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image It's FDTI chipped so I won't have to worry about drivers and it'll be a "one and done" that'll work with all the radios I have and any I get in the future. I don't worry too much about CHIRP since I'm running it under WINE on my Linux Box.
  5. I wonder how a 701G would do in place of the stock antenna?
  6. LOL, currently I only have 4 radios. 1/UV-5r, 2/UV-82's, 1/A36 Plus. I'll get the FT-65r tomorrow and the 805g on Monday and that'll probably be in for a while. I would like a 905g eventually depending on how the 805g works out. I really don't think 6 radios is all that many but then being neurodiverse does tend to make me over do things.
  7. Ok, so like I said in my other post, the 905g is on hold for now, Amazon still had the funds from the gift card "pending" and it had not shipped so I don't see how they could get it to me by tomorrow so the order was canceled. I used the gift card funds to buy a Yaesu FT-65r which WILL be here tomorrow and the 805g is still on order and will be here on Monday. This doesn't mean that I'm not going to get a 905g, it just means it off for now and I'll wait until more of my refund hits.
  8. Kept watching for the Wouxun KG-905g to ship(today is Friday and it's suppose to be delivered tomorrow)and the gift card funds were still "pending" and it hadn't shipped so I canceled the order(I'm still getting the 805g on Monday)and ordered the FT-65r which will be here tomorrow. Should be easy to MARS/CAP Mod and since it's also VHF I can add MURS frequencies and it has NOAA and FM Radio too. It's also CHIRP compatible so that's a big plus. I'm going to try and do a ''First Look" mini-review on it and the 805g on my YouTubes channel when I get them and use them for a bit to see how they work.
  9. As long as it's set properly then that won't be it then. Just to be sure I'd double check though.
  10. You're probably hearing repeater traffic. Remember, GMRS channels 15-22 are also the receive frequencies for repeaters RPT15-22. Since you don't have the tones set they simply can't hear you. Try looking up the repeaters in your area and program in the input and output tones then see if you'll get a response.
  11. All the repeaters that I'll use in my Ares are between 100 and 141 for tones so if it only affects higher tones then I think I'll be good.
  12. GMRS is NOT H.A.M. so all those H.A.M. rules don't apply. Many folks don't even bother with their call sign or those that do don't follow the 15 minute rule. WSAA six three five OUT.
  13. Not to get too far off topic but I've noticed that sometimes the O.D. of the antenna bade is too large to screw down into the I.D. of the hole on the radio. I had this issue with a Nagoya 701c and my Talkpod A36 Plus. It didn't seat far enough into the radio to make good contact so the factory antenna actually worked better.
  14. So does the KH-805g have the same issues? Do all Wouxun radios have this issue or only certain models?
  15. That's kind of what I was saying in a tongue of cheek sort of way. It's doubtful that someone who makes thousands or even hundreds of thousands of radios each year wouldn't do something about an issue like this. I even emailed buytwowsyradios and Anthony got back to me saying that other than a handful of S88's he's not heard of such an issue. I think it's much to do over nothing but I'll have a year in case something does go sideways.
  16. So depending on the day of the week the radio was made the tones may be off or they may not be off. All the tones or just some of them. It seems that tones are pretty much hardwired into the radio, that is to say they're preset without variation so how they can be out of spec. would beg the question as to how a major manufacturer like Wouxun could be so sloppy.
  17. First off it's odd that the Tx and Rx aren't simply 5MHz apart. Normally I'd the TX is 467.650MHz the Rx will be 462.650MHz, a +5MHz off set which is standard for GMRS repeaters. I know with some radios you need to enter both frequencies and with others you just need the base frequency (462.xxxMHz) and the offset and the radio will automatically raise the Tx frequency to the 467.xxxMHz one. You normally only need the TX or input CTCSS to trigger the repeater. You can enter the Rx output tone if you only want to hear the repeater and cut out other traffic on that frequency. Randy(Notarubicon productions) on the YouTubes has a lot of good videos explaining all of this. If you can check them out and I'll bet it'll clear a lot of things up for you.
  18. The 3 repeaters that I'd use locally each have a different tone so I'd need those 3 tones. I could set each tone on one GMRS channel and tone scan each with my UV-82 to see which tone the 905g is transmitting. If those 3 work I can figure that Wouxun got things correct with the other tones and all will be well with the universe.
  19. The KG-905g is a Superhet, not a SOC/"rig on a chip" radio. Also, the warranty is 1 year so I think I'll have plenty of time to see if it's going to work or not.
  20. So basically, in a nut shell, to test out my 905g I need to program the Rx/Tx tones into a channel of one of my Baofeng radios then do the same with the 905g and if they talks I'm good to go. If they don't I have an issue. What would buytwowayradios do to fix it if I did have an issue? Is it something that I could easily fix at home?
  21. And it always helps if you wave a dead chicken over the radio before you use it.
  22. LOL, that's so easy for a Neurotypical person to say.
  23. Thanks for chiming in Randy. I ask this same question today on a YouTubes video you did on tones about 5 months ago. I'm really looking forward to getting my 905g and hope there's no issues with it. I've been having a run of bad luck lately with a few of the radios I've bought. I hope the 905g breaks this cycle.
  24. All of the radios I currently have or have had only have the tones in Hz. They're all CTCSS tones. I searched the YouTubes for Wouxun radios having issues with tones being installed correctly in the radios and I've found zero, zip, zilch about it. There seems to be no issues with tones and I don't know why RayP would even mention it.
  25. So how do I know if my 905g is good or has an issue with tones? What is RayP talking about in the above post?
