  1. I guess I am wanting the best of both worlds. I the mountains where I live with lots of trees and a lower dpi is preferred but reaching the repeater with a higher dbi is also preferred as I travel out of the home area. I guess using a diplexer for two different dbi is not going to work either. If they made an antenna with a wide pattern at 6 dbi I guess it would be the only antenna people would buy. LOL
  2. The reason I ask is a 4.5dbi comparing patterns seems like it would work best in the mountains for me with my mobile radio @50watts. can it be done with extra cable? also how would I measure a fine tuning for dbi?
  3. The down side is not having TX on HAM if SHTF
  4. I also have to figure out the mobile antenna. Since I live in the Blue Ridge mountains high gain will only benefit when I have few obstructions. I am guessing a 4-5.5 gain if I can find one to hit the G spot for the area. My BF8 hits the repeater sometimes but it gets patchy. Hoping the mobile radio and a good antenna reduces that. I have been on a hunt for a good one.
  5. I had a feeling at 50w the chip would not last. Thanks for the feedback back.
  6. https://www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-kg-1000g-plus.html?___SID=U or https://baofengtech.com/product/uv-50x3/ Hoping to use one of these for a SHTF and monitoring communications. I kinda like the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus because it is a heterodyne and a little more sensitive and clearer, but there’s a difference between the broadcast frequencies of the Btech which is homodyne off a chip. I know no one ever has an opinion on these forms but I thought I would ask. LOL
  7. I am considering it for a mobile radio since it is not chip based and has better sensitivity control. I do like the fact the face control can be remote. it would be the #1 seller if it were tx on all bands offered for SHTF or if someone were to get the ham license. for a base I am looking for a quad band open for tx on all bands including GMRS.
  8. Guess my OCD took me down the rabbit hole
  9. Would 462 or 467 not be between 400-479? UHF?
  10. Is this a typo or am I missing something?
  11. This is a pro and has several differences to the original including GPS location share. If you are broken down it comes in handy in remote areas. The groups become a benefit because it is a tri band. Being able to use groups works well for traveling to different locations with different repeaters as well. I use Chirp and and the manufacturer software and neither have the set up to set up groups. the radio has just been released to the market and it is very different than its previous generation as far as features.
  12. The BF-F8HP PRO has dual watch and is a Tri band with GPS for transmitting your location. This could be handy if you broke down. I just received mine and with the new colored screen and better speaker the old model will take a back seat. I am trying to learn how to program the groups. 1000 Chanel’s can be divided into 10 groups making lots of room for repeaters as I travel to new play areas. Can’t wait to see a detailed review on it soon for other opinions and applications.
  13. This is a new radio on the market just released. I guess after enough people play with it I will get better answers. So far it seems to have a great speaker and is much clearer than the previous model. The gps feature is nice and the screen is much easier to read. The tx power is a little higher than advertised. When I figure out group programing it will give a great way to jump from key groups of programmed frequencies to others.
  14. I have a fiberglass telescopic rod that gives me about 20 feet of height I just have to figure out what type of antenna to use for the repeater on it.
  15. I just received my new radio and so far I am pretty pleased with it. The one thing I am trying to figure out is how to use the group programming. Getting the frequencies I needed into a group. Has anyone had any experience with this yet?
  16. I am part of a support and rescue team, we are wanting to build a few mobile repeaters so that we can place them in areas that are very difficult to get signal when doing a rescue or providing support. What would be the preferable antenna to use that would be portable and provide ample range and durability. Our repeaters are in a waterproof case with the battery and exterior connections for the accommodating solar panels.

  18. Thanks guys and I assume the offset is auto or +.5
  19. Open Repeater info Fq: 462.700 input: 203.5 output: 245.1 What tone is entered into my radio on T-CTCS to use the repeater?
