I have both and no problems with either of them. The BTech has the better display since it shows no just channel numbers but individual names for channels Programms beyond what is stock. The RA86 is just very basic.

So, were you using the posted tone from the map? I even programmed all tones as separate channels just for the fun of it and non worked.

I have tried the whole week to hit Shaw Butte and nothing. I have no issues hitting the 70cm Ham repeater that sits next to it with a handheld. From my location and also getting Pinal Peak with handheld but Shaw is dead or the listed tone is not up to date.
